Give Canadians access to permethrin-treated clothing to prevent tick bites/Lyme disease

Permethrin is allowed in the US and is recommended on the Government of Canada's website for travelling outside of Canada where the risk of insect-borne disease is high. The risk of Lyme disease is now high in many parts of Canada. It's time to make permethrin available for treating clothes. It is effective and safer than the disease.

I contracted Lyme Disease from a tick bite and have been suffering with the affects for 9 months (this after months of oral and IV antibiotics). It is March 20th and I discovered a tick crawling on my foot after spending 30 minutes in some eastern Ontario woods today. The tick situation is way out of hand, and it is criminal and negligent that the government does not provide us access to permethrin treated clothing and sprays.

Just removed a deer tick from my dog...in April!!! He was in our backyard albeit on a country lot. Ticks are becoming too much of a health risk we need safe and effective repellants.

With the increase in mosquito-born illnesses, we need to re-think our approach to preventing and defending against these diseases.

These critters are a manace and need to be controlled. Best way to do that is by educating everyone and developing an antidote or find a predator that likes tics for lunch!

We need it now. My husband, my dog and myself have had 15 ticks on us so far this year. We live in the Truro area.

Given the rise of ticks and the rise of Lyme we need to be looking at alternatives to DEET closely and with proper warning be available in Canada.
