Give Canadians access to permethrin-treated clothing to prevent tick bites/Lyme disease

Only noticed this site today,....with outbreaks of lyme disease in Lunenburg county, NS, permethrin is an acceptable solution in helping reduce this disease. While we are used to the dog/wood tick, the much smaller deer tick is often very difficult to see in the larval, nymph stages. Problem is increasing.

Several people in Prince Edward County have been bitten and tested positive for Lyme. People no longer want to camp or hike there.

Lyme disease is awful! Help us prevent more Lyme infections in Canada.

I want to be able to spray my hiking boots.

Why ban something so beneficial, it's ridiculous.

Tried Deet and it doesn't work! I worry every time I venture out in the wilderness at my local Provincial and Federal parks with my family about ticks and lyme disease. This product has been used for years else where with success, why not here? We are behind in treatment and we are behind in prevention, it is cost effective in prevention (out of my pocket) than the Government to the medical bills of the lyme disease. Mr Trudeau.

It would just be a lot easier and simpler for people to be able to pick it up at our local stores though (Walmart, Canadian Tire...).

I am a Travel Health nurse; and I recommend using (as per travel.gc.ca) Permethrin to treat clothing, gear, and mosquito nets as part of personal protective measures to prevent mosquito and tick borne illnesses. I read a few comments and felt I needed to correct some individuals; It is NOT illegal to purchase Permethrin and have it shipped to Canada. I have had many clients that have done so. Used according to the product labels, Permethrin is safer to use, I think, than DEET.

For outdoor use: to spray on clothing (outdoors), allow to dry, then put on. My USA hunting buddies say it is very effective for both ticks and mosquitoes.

Permethrin is safe and can protect us from zika and west nile virus.

This is a viable alternative to DEET

In the absence of evidence of harm, the presence of evidence of benefit, and clearly more harmful alternatives, this seems to be a "no-brainer".

I have tried to convince Health Canada to advocate treating exterior clothing with .5% permethrin for decades without success. This can not be blamed on a political party. This failure is something far more sinister.

Permethrin has been used safely by the US and Canadian military for over 30 years. Why can't the average Canadian purchase these products?! Also, Avon and Piactive are two companies carrying picaridin products in Canada, why isn't Sawyer's fisherman's formula acceptable to ship to Canada?

Permethrin is safe for human use and is highly effective against ticks and other biting insects. We need this product for use in Canada!

Horrid and terrified!

I am concerned that my grandchildren will get a tick bite while visiting us in NS. We live in Lunnenburg county so gave good reason to be concerned.
