Give the Eastchester Class of 2020 the Graduation We Deserve

They absolutely deserve it. It will be a very important memory in their lives. I am sure it won’t be mandatory so whoever has concerns can stay home.

There are ways to do it safely if time and consideration are taken.

It’s scary that children are this entitled that they think their graduation is more important than people lives and safety, and their parents are even supporting them. They are completely disconnected from reality I just don’t understand.

This is incredibly selfish and borderline brain dead. Thousands of NYers have died and you want a graduation ceremony, grow up. Any actual adult will realize this petition is a pipe dream that will never happen. Do you actually think the Eastchester School Board is going to an idea this stupid and dangerous? How about after all the funerals that couldn’t happen are done we talk about your meaningless graduation.

Why should Eastchester students get something more than seniors all across the country? I am not discounting their achievements but our region hasn’t even been deemed for phase one of reopening. What make them so special? This is what leads to entitled children simply because they come from wealthier communities. This is happening across the country and it is a matter of health, safety, life and death. Not something to be taken lightly and disregarded. The argument may be stronger if the region was even reopened but this is not the time.

Don’t be Selfish. These same kids commenting that are the ones going to the beach in groups of 10 posting pictures of them hugging on Instagram. Do you really think they’ll follow guidelines? Yes you might get to see your cheerleading buddy one more time but don’t complain when grandpa dies.

To the Superintendent of Schools and the Eastchester Board of Education: Please consider this our petition to grant the EHS Class of 2020 their graduation day by ‘walking the walk’ together under our traditional white tent! Please, no virtual graduation! It’s a long time tradition - one that culminates years of hard work and a time to be together for the last time as the remarkable Class of 2020. For safety reasons, it could be just the graduates and faculty under the huge tent. Family and friends can watch it remotely for safety reasons...and spacing of the Class under the tent can be done in a creative way. We all know this pandemic has caused tremendous fear, grief and anguish over the past months. Yet, this Class persevered, learning and taking exams remotely at home while quarantined from everything they’ve known as Seniors. Let’s give them this opportunity to safely receive their diplomas and celebrate their achievements TOGETHER. In closing, I have confidence that this Administration will creatively and wisely show the Class of 2020, and the community, the pride we all have in them. This incredible educational challenge was a job extremely well done by students and their remarkable teachers! Bravo! EASTCHESTER HIGH SCHOOL CLASS OF 2020 - STRONG! Class of 2012

I think if done outside and in the summer when the virus should have die down a bit and everyone is wearing masks, gloves and social distancing; and perhaps limiting the amount of people there, to 2 per graduate, well then it should be safe enough to celebrate the day. Just have some rain dates ready if it is held outdoors.

If you can go on line at stop n shop 6 feet apart they should be able t graduate the same way. Just have parents attend then.
