Imagine being the mother of nine children and a successful reporter and being fired for circulating a pro-life petition at your local church!

Well, that is exactly what happened to Melanie Standiford, a local TV news producer and co-anchor at KNOP-TV in Nebraska.

During her own time, Melanie decided to get involved in a pro-life campaign at her local church to get signatures to pass an ordinance declaring her local town to be a sanctuary city for the unborn.

A local news outlet interviewed Melanie at her church and when her bosses at KNOP-TV found out, they fired her on the spot.

PLEASE HELP MELANIE GET HER JOB BACK BY SIGNING THIS PETITION

The local TV station, owned by a company that owns a chain of TV stations said it was against their policies for any reporters to engage in political activism.

But we all know that almost all TV reporters are mouthpieces of the left, and why should a reporter lose her right to voice her own opinions on her own time?

In fact, what KNOP-TV did is illegal according to Nebraska statutes, which prohibits employers from discriminating against employees because of their political views or activities.

PLEASE SIGN AND SHARE THIS PETITION ON SOCIAL MEDIA TO HELP MELANIE GET HER JOB BACK

We all know the media is politically biased against pro-lifers and against Christians in general, so for them to fire someone for their private political opinions is beyond hypocritical.

We will personally deliver this petition to KNOP-TV in North Platte Nebraska.

Please help us support Melanie Standiford and the right of all pro-lifers to freely voice their opinions in their private life and not have to fear being fired for it.

Thank you!

Since when can you get fired for doing something outside the office? Not talking about committing a crime--about having your own view and sharing it. This country has really changed for the worse.

I am a Nebraska native, from Potter. Since when is it illegal to try to protect the unborn. This outrages me, and is very unlike North Platte. What Melanie did was in keeping with our first amendment rights. Give her back her job!

It is a violation of her first amendment rights to fire her for speaking her convictions away from her job. If she had stated the opposite opinion would she have been fired ? I doubt it. That is discrimination.

Firing someone for their deeply held religious held beliefs and activities is un-American and shameful. The only correct decision is to rehire Melanie immediately. No one should face employment termination for supporting their moral convictions. What corrupt times we live in! Shame on you!

Firing someone for their pov on a subject is a politically correct action but not a valid reason. Job qualifications are different than a person’s beliefs. Please give her her job back because it’s the right thing to do.

This is unconscionable. This pro-life woman did something she believes in on HER OWN TIME & unrelated to her Job & was FIRED for this? Since when is this legal? This persecution needs to stop - NOW.

The right to life is primarily viewed as a political stance by those who believe abortion is a constitutionally protected right. However, no such constitutional protections exist. What is a constitutionally protected right is the First Amendment in the Bill of Rights. As noted by the ACLU, the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution says that everyone in the United States has the right to practice his or her own religion, or no religion at all. This was a religious activity, not political. KNOP-TV must immediately review its policy and reinstate Ms. Standiford. Good luck and God bless!
