Change the girls uniform skirt-nylon policy at HS of St. Thomas More

As a parent of 5 girls I respectfully request the school administration explain the rational and logic behind the "requirement" of the female students at STM to wear non-see through stockings and nylons when wearing an STM certified skirt from the required clothing store recently demanded on the students. This will be extremely uncomfortable in warm weather and nylons are fragile causing unneeded expense on the student or parent. In addition nylons are very outdated. Shall they also be required to wear a corset and petticoat? So there is no accusation of double standards is the school administration and staff (to include Father and Diocese) willing wear nylons and stockings under their normal attire? Leadership by example, correct? Anxiously awaiting your response.

Please make the atmosphere & apparel comfortable for the girls. Deal with inappropriate uniform wearing on an individual basis. School is about learning, which includes how to be appropriately dressed for different situations.

This is sexist!! Girls' bodies are not "distracting" it's other people's thought process that distracts.

I really hope to see this part of the dress code overturned. Nylons are outdated and as a female I can tell you highly uncomfortable. It is an added expense to the parents as well

Sending your children to a Catholic school requires sacrifice and making these new changes make no sense. Uniforms are important but not having to purchase unnecessary changes during the 4 years.

I think it ought to be possible to come up with a compromise solution that satisfies everybody.

I do not agree with the new policy. When we were looking into sending our daughter to STM this issue was never even mentioned. I believe it is a double standard and an unnecessary expense for the parents. I truly hope they reconsider this policy.

If I'm reading the uniform policy correctly, girls are allowed to wear shorts if purchased at C&A. Seems very inconsistent to allow their bare legs to show with shorts on but not with skirts. Would really be nice to know just what the administration is trying to accomplish with the nylon/tight policy - other than succeeding in taking away anyone's ability to express their individuality and cultivate and celebrate diversity. Very disappointed with many aspects of the policy. Too many to state here...

I would be fine requiring tights/leggings when shorts aren't allowed. They are more sturdy and keep then warm but nylons are out dated and not a coming practice in the professional business wheels and shouldn't be required as uniform for hs..I went to Catholic hs, we had to always have socks or knee highs with our pants..skirts weren't common but if you did wear them it was still socks only.

It would be nice if the administration would give us a legitimate reason as to why they are making all of these changes to our school. I just don't quite understand how all of these changes will benefit the students in any way. Not only the adding of nylon tights, but all of the new changes made this year at STM are completely unnecessary.

This policy is not practical. Our girls wear spandex shorts under their dresses. If the dress hem code was enforced we would have no reason to enforce this on our young ladies. I strongly disagree with this change in our uniform policy. I hope you will take the time to re-think this area of the uniform policy. Thank you. The Kuczera's.

I'm sure the reason for initially changing the rule was made with good intention, but it is not practical or necessary. I reveered my time at STM and want future alumni and current students to feel the same way. Do something good now for your student body and drop this policy.

I think all women will agree that putting on tights/nylons is a struggle and time consuming. Add an hour of running around in PE and having to put then back on, while somewhat sweaty, almost impossible.

No tights/Nylons...doesn't seem reasonable

It's bad when I have friends that are getting a better education at public schools where they can wear whatever they want, and we have a stricter dress code every year, when we could be getting more accelerated classes implemented. We deserve the same education that kids at public schools are getting and we are not currently getting that! Administration needs to focus on what really matters, not something silly like this!!!!

Not only is this policy unfair but it is also extremely unnecessar and inconsiderate to students experiencing financial hardships.

As a graduate from this school, it saddens me to see that STM is making a mockery of itself in the community. It seems to me that the administration is quite power hungry and corrupt if it believes that these ridiculous 'modesty' rules will somehow improve the quality of the education. Start making changes that improve education at this school, stop trying to focus on the modesty of teenage girls. They have parents to monitor that behavior, and honestly the longer skirts should solve your problems without the tights. Keep in mind that young women in grades 6th, 7th, or 8th will not want to attend a school that views their modesty as more important than their education if they have a choice. Please become the Catholic High School that this community needs.

I agree with this petition. I don't understand the tights requirement. I don;t understand why this is being implemented now versus past years. I would like to know why the policy really is changing. I feel that if some kids are not meeting the dress code, those kids should be dealt with directly instead of changing the policy for all. simply talk to the kids who are not meeting the dress code.
