When you factor in the playing career AND the managerial career, this one's a no brainer. Why can't the two be considered together? I'm no Mets fan, but let's face it. The Miracle Mets was one of sports' all-time great stories, and Hodges was the team's leader.

He lived around the corner from me in Brooklyn. He was such a gentleman! Not only a great hitter but the best defensive first baseman I have ever seen! I was at his wake and the line to see him had a 3 hour wait! When I saw his hands I understood why he was so good defensively. His hands were the size of a first baseman's

Gil Hodges should be in the Hall of Fame. Was the sparkplug of the Dodgers and meets all the usual benchmarks.

I was a devoted Brooklyn Dodger fan from about 1949 'til they moved to LA. He was one of my favorite players and a real old fashioned role model!
