Ecosia is already the default search engine at several universities, including the University of Sussex.

If Ecosia were the default search engine here at the university, student searches could fund the planting of thousands of trees each month.

On average, it takes 45 Ecosia searches to plant a tree. With a student population of around 29,000 and over 8,000 staff, and an estimated daily figure of only one search per person, the University of Glasgow could be contributing to over 300,000 new trees being planted every year!

I was just checking the dashboard and noticed we are inching toward five hundred signatures which is honestly wild because if we hit that mark it puts so much more weight on the administration when I finally send that email off. If you could just ping one person who goes here or tell that one friend from your tutorial group to look at this link it would really help us break through this current plateau.

I spent the morning emailing the IT department again and honestly the silence from their office is just so deafening. It really makes me think about how many thousands of trees we could have already planted if they would just look at the proposal instead of ignoring my messages.

I checked the count and we are almost at one hundred signatures which seems wild for a few days of work so please send the link to whoever you think might care because hitting triple digits will actually force the committee to look at us properly.

This is such a simply beautiful way to help save the planet. Please, please make this the university’s default browser to align with Scotland’s values on the climate crisis.

I already use it and it is great. It would be a great way of helping the Uni demonstrate positive action towards Scottish government climate change targets.

Sometimes the simplest of changes can make a drastic difference. At the scale of university institutions that can be as simple as switching to an alternative search engine. At a international level that can be as simple as spending subsidies on renewable energy rather than fossil fuels, since the former only receives about 2% of what the artifically-lowered fuel prices get.

You've declared climate emergency. This is something very simple that has an actual affect.

This is a simple change to make. I have been using ecosia for months now and can confirm it's just as good, if not better, than Google. There is literally no reason why this shouldn't happen.
