Get Rid of Downtown Charlottesville Parking Meters

I am boycotting spending any money in the city as I am fed up with city council decisions like these #$%^ parking meters.

I'm no longer visiting some downtown businesses, such as Market Street Market, because of these meters.

The parking situation is a discouragement from shopping and/or volunteer activities downtown.

I agree with everything in this petition

As a frequent mall-goer, this was a really BAD idea. We need more free parking downtown.

I don't think the meters are a welcome addition, additionally they are confusing to use.

I should add the city plans to again charge or the meters after the first of the year

I am curious how many people on this site know that the city, at the request of the business community, agreed to make the meters free till January 1?

The mall should be more accessible not less accessible.

We need to make the mall a welcoming place for everyone. Parking meters and parking tickets for those that don't feed the meters in time (if they have the ability to pay in the first place) create an unwelcome environment. Let's bring everyone together instead of creating barriers to being downtown.

I have lived in Charlottesville all of my life. I've always loved being able to show my hometown off to friends and have been proud of our easy and accessible parking, until now. Especially for all those who work on the mall! Are they expected to take a chunk out of their paycheck just to nake a living? We are not D.C., there is no reason for the city to be grabbing more money out of our pockets and raising the cost of living. We are already driving out so many natives and only the rich and privilege are moving in. If this continues, Charlottesville as we know it will no longer exist. We will lose all of our quirks. Especially in light of the events this past August, we need to be encouraging people to show support for our small businesses and community. My husband and I recently went out to dinner on a Saturday night. It was a warmer, nice night, all the Christmas decorations were up, and the mall was completely dead. This time of year, people usually flock to the Downtown Mall, but I think that these parking meters are causing people to go elsewhere for their business. The mall has always been a staple for our culture, our economy, and our community. Thes sparking meters have been triad and failed before, and I hope that they will be taken down again.

Away with the parking meters! Parking downtown is trouble enough.

These meters make it impossible for the people that actually work downtown every single day to find parking close by. As a woman, I work late and night and having to walk a far distance by myself in the dark makes me feel super unsafe giving the recent abduction attemps.

Get rid of the meters!!! Make places for downtown mall residents to park. Yes, people LIVE on the mall!!!!

I love Cville but taking away free street parking when you already have expensive lot parking is awful. Even RVA has free street parking in Carytown and that's what you all are most similar to - not the entire city but a district of your city. Please support shop small and shop local by removing these.

I don't like it never did. By lining the spaces you reduce the number of vehicles that can park as well. It was obviously a money grab when you raised the time required to pay from 6 until 8 pm. And you have made the parking garage a tangled mess. People with passes can not even get to the gate to leave bc of people waiting to pay. That was always a problem, but it is a lot worse now. The city has just messed up parking over and over again. Just buy the jerk out of Water street garage and accept that you made a mistake.

Downtown is the one of the best sources of revenue for the city. These meters are driving people away.

Not only were the meters on the mall poorly implemented, but they were ill-conceived to start with. The mall is the lifeblood of Charlottesville, generating the majority of the tax income in the area and is a focal point for tourism and entertainment. Charging for parking is anti small-business and will only drive business out into the county and to national chains rather than our fantastic local businesses.

The meters are poorly timed, too expensive, and keeping people away from downtown.
