Get Rid of Downtown Charlottesville Parking Meters

I often see people struggling to find and use these meters. I find them unwelcoming and a deterrent to those who wish to shop and dine downtown.

If I am running a quick errand that is optional - like picking up take out on my way home from work, I don’t choose a mall business if I cannot park closely and for free - it ends up being easier to just patronize a business with a normal parking lot. The meters make it much more difficult to find a spot and certainly makes it more difficult to easily patronize mall businesses!

Meters have helped me decide to stay away from downtown. If that was the idea then it’s working!

For King Building Condos assoc. Unauthorized , sneak parking in our lot has gone up since the meters. Downtown needs to be easier to get to and park , not harder and expensive. Thank you, Tim

It definitely keeps me from going downtown. I used to always find on-street FREE parking and that's what I prefer.

The one and only I tried to use the machine I couldn't make my card work. I knew I'd only be gone for 15 minutes so I left without paying. When I came back my car had been towed it cost me over $100 to get it back. I haven't gone downtown since. Get rid of the meters!

Yet another reason to avoid the Downtown Mall. With two new shopping areas added to the area in the past 5 years - Stonefield and Fifth Street Station - there are many more choices to shop... where the parking is free AND easy.

This is detracting business from downtown and adversely affecting downtown workers.

I tried it once. Got a ticket because held over in a restaurant. No more downtown mall for me!!

We've heard the numbers proudly announced by the city for revenue collected from parking meters in a single weekend. Now where are the numbers revealing how much revenue downtown businesses took in that same weekend compared to previous weekends?

I stopped shopping downtown due the inconvience of these meters. If you want business supported, you'll go back to free 2 hr parking spots

I'm a city resident who was an almost daily visitor to the Downtown Mall for 20+ years which gradually tapered off and now I avoid the place completely with the new meters. This city council has failed us in every possible way. In addition to this petition I happily signed petitions to recall the whole council and start with some fresh ideas. It’s difficult to both work downtown and have to pay for every parking spot.

On top of everything else: They're butt ugly.

The parking meters are hard to read and frustrating.

The parking meters make it impossible for people working downtown to actually park their cars, How do you expect people to work downtown if they cant get there? The garages are prohibitively expensive, and the businesses downtown are never going to compensate their employees for parking there. The city wants to build downtown up, and yet they continue to make it harder and harder for the people who have to work there. It's like they're pulling the rug out from under our feet!
