Get Rid of Downtown Charlottesville Parking Meters

I do not mind paying for parking, but the rates are too high.

Foottraffic on mall has slowed since meters were installed.

It was obvious from the start that the installation of these meters was going to have a strong impact on pedestrian traffic on the mall, and therefore on its businesses. So, of course, it would be nice to know what the city was hoping to gain besides some additional bilking of the residents of Charlottesville/ Albemarle.

It’s hard enough already.

I will not use these meters under any circumstances. Why should I pay to park to shop on the downtown mall when I can park at any other mall for free? This is just another incentive for customers to shop online instead of supporting local merchants. The previous 2-hour free street parking should be reduced to 1 hour, which is usually enough time to do business with downtown merchants. Changing the policy to 1 hour free-parking would eliminate the abusive practice of moving a car frequently.

I still don't understand what current or future problems these are designed to solve, or what problems they do solve. They just seem to create more issues for parking downtown.

I see a Dr. downtown and also frequent the stores, and am discouraged from shopping after my appts. due to these meters. If people want a guaranteed spot, there are always plenty of them in the garages, the street parking should remain under a time restriction, but free.

When parking is easy and there are free options I’ll return to the downtown mall.

The same corrupt city council that caused property-values to plummet near downtown this summer have put these up to further hurt business in hopes of buying downtown property cheaply through accomplices. They are nickel-and-diming this city for everything while providing citizens less service. Absolute criminals.

I parked directly in front of a police officer in one of the brand new metered spots outside city hall. The officer waited until I walked inside and then immediately ticketed me. Obviously I didn’t know the spot was metered since it was new, didn’t have an individual meter, wasn’t clearly marked, and I parked right in front of an officer. Ridiculous and penny-pinching behavior. There are plenty of paid lots in town, but free parking should remain available too.

the parking did not need to be fixed. now I do not go downtown as much because of the parking meters.
