Get Rid of Downtown Charlottesville Parking Meters

Please get rid of them! I work downtown and patrons of our establishment are always complaining about how difficult they are to use! I do think they are driving people away from the downtown area. Get rid of them, please.

Water Street Garage accepts validations, does not give a free hour. Market Street Garage gives a free hour and stopped accepting the validations.

Agreed, the parking meters add to the already discouraging parking situation downtown. Many locals have the choice of shopping at Barracks Road, Stonefield, Fashion Square, and other locations where parking is FREE, or downtown - which do you think they might choose?

One of the reasons I don't go there. Will go somewhere else.

All of us were hit hard as a result of August 12, and are suffering. The City of Charlottesville needs to do something to help, in addition to getting a handle on the number of homeless on the mall. Guests are put off by this and won't go to town. I'm on 29 north, but promote City. Hard to do that anymore, Give us something. Thank you.

I don't visit downtown CHARLOTTESVILLE as much now. The new shopping centers are easier.

Bad for downtown - finding street parking was never a problem. Now I leave downtown if metered parking is the only option.

The city has perfect timing for poor decisions mainly because of being out of touch with day to day life.

I never know if the machine actually worked and have never received a receipt as confirmation.

Charlottesville has a reputation in the media at this moment as being a battle ground, the last thing we need to do is to charge people for the right of being here to spend money on local businesses.

For pete's sake, City, make it easy for people to park! Too many of us need to drive and have no other options, and we don't want the downtown merchants to fail. What were you thinking?

The parking meter pilot program has demonstrated that meters will have a negative effect on business on the downtown mall. We want to make shopping at the mall as easy as possible, so please drop the meter plan.
