The downtown parking meters disincentivise folks from coming to the downtown area, and makes it more expensive for those who do. We are driving folks away with these meters.

these meters were not needed and have had nothing but a negative impact on Downtown Charlottesville. I and many that I know actively avoid downtown now because of them.

The plan was not executed well nor was the plan communicated and marketed well. Until then it will not be successful.

Parking meters are a definite deterrent for people wanting to shop downtown.

While I am signing this petition, I often found free parking unavailable before the meters were installed. Also, if people really want to go to the mall the’ll find a way. And let’s not forget, 29N, though an abomination in it’s harshness, has seen many of the folks who have issues with downtown parking flocking to Stonefield, LL Bean, Duck Donuts and Trader Joe’s.

I really used to like shopping and eating downtown, but I have always searched for free parking. With each passing year, fewer and fewer free spots. I now mostly shop online, or elsewhere, and hate the farmers' market, avoid it like the plague. I go to the one that is more manageable in Crozet, and has...free parking!

While the meters may have a useful purpose, now is not the time to have them. Downtown needs a full recovery program from the city, not something that clearly hurts business.
And the implementation has was not what was promised
When the idea of meters was first presented to the city, the idea was to model the program on Boulder, Co., where all the funds go to the downtown enhancements and events They have lovely signs saying thank you for donating to downtown, . Boulder only charges $1.25 an hour, meters only goes from 9-7, allows unlimited time on Saturday and the city has a great web site explaining their parking.
Charlottesville altered the plan and the implementation was insensitive to the impact of Aug 12 on businesses downtown.

As a Downtown employee, I frequently hear from confused/frustrated folks who come in and do not know how to work these "user-friendly" meters. If the roll out had been better, and they were cheaper, it may work better, but as they are now, it is a detriment to downtown. This was the case when they were implemented before! Please consider the health of downtown, and have them removed.

Charlottesville needs to be open and available to all - residents and tourists alike. When parking meters create challenges in mobility and ease, it discourages many people. We have a wonderful parking garage that has been working well. Please remove the parking meters and encourage everyone to enjoy the downtown mall without all of these complications

Remove the parking meters.
They destroy downtowns image of a quaint small town. Gives visitors and locals headaches and saddens those of us who have lived here for decades.

I run the Hotdog cart on 3rd street and I see the steady flow of regulars who work on the mall. But since the meters were installed I don't see as many people from surrounding counties as I use to frequent my stand. This wasn't a very intelligent move by the city to install the meters.

Everytime I have driven by these metered spaces during the hours they are enforced, it looks like 90% or more are empty. The system is clearly not working. However, I DO like the 1 hour free parking at the Market Street Garage. I have used it quite a lot; usually to make a quick run to the Market Street Market, which I love.

The DTM needs to be open to everyone, not just those who can afford to pay for parking. And we need to create more ways and places for our diverse community to be together instead of putting up impediments to gatherings.
