He is almost as annoying in commentary as Eddie Butler & Brian Moore are for rugby

The unnecessary comments about Fabio Aru's appearance stick with me. It would have been nice to talk about his bike riding while he was winning the stage...

My heart sinks when I hear CK's voice about to commentate on a bike race. His inane, inaccurate and ridiculous commentary takes away the pleasure of watching cycling professionals. He is rude to riders, repeats himself and goes on about road surfaces, talks nonsense, opens his mouth before his brain is in gear. He is a nightmare.

I’m sure he’s a good man, and wish him all the best, but he’s a VERY annoying cycling commentator, who sadly isn’t on top of neither the sport in general or the live action. The bad jokes and constant repeated tag lines in addition to the over excited yelling in the final, is so unbearable that I had to watch the Eurosport feed and run the ITV sound during last year’s tour. Plenty of good commentators on ES/GCN now, so why not move him to another sport that would suit him better. Hope Matt Stephens doesn’t morph into a similar boarder line mad commentator... he’s so knowledgeable and also funny, but he’s starting to say a bit too much fluff and madness... fingers crossed.

Please keep Adam Blyth. He is a passionate, informed processional, who offers insight and knowledge. Everything Kirby lacks.

My heart sinks when I hear his voice at the start of any broadcast. I know I'm going to be subjected to at least 2 hours of inane remarks, misinformation & made - up 'facts'. This man should never be allowed anywhere near a bike race of any significance, let alone a classic or a GT.

I'd say I couldnt agree more, but you're being far too kind. He boarderline ruins the sport, almost impossible to even tolerate let alone enjoy

Each time I sit down to watch cycling I just HOPE that CK is not commentating - the disappointment which "reveals itself" when I realise that it is him who is going to "impose himself" on my viewing is palpable. He will spoil any day - "a day such as this", "for goodness sake" whether it's describing "puppy paws" or the totally wrong rider, "this is fantastic" - NOT. I'm sure he is trying his best but how come no one has "tagged him" in favour of numerous other far more accomplished and knowledgeable commentators?! GRRR!!

Tired of hearing him waffling on and missing the action. Time for the likes of Adam Blyth etc to inform, educate and humour the public.

A monkey could do a better job. He simply does not comment on what's happening and ruins the viewing.

Agree with everything said here! I have finally cracked and will switch to Dutch rather than listen to his race-ruining twaddle

I could read out a list of riders who may or may not win a bike race, but this wouldn’t be commentary. This is what Carlton Kirby does on every race he covers regardless of the distance to the line. He offers no insight, clearly only recognises the star riders, apparently does no research beyond looking at the road book and peppers every sentence with the most awful cliches (“imposing themselves”, “joining the party”, “revealing themselves to us”, etc etc. Commentary also isn’t a jokey conversation where the commentator laughs at all his own jokes.

he spoils everything, I have started watching the gcn in dutch instead of him, I dont speak dutch, but it makes more sense

Please please don’t let the Clown with the crystal ball ruin the commentary on cycle racing. Stick to the Ex pros.

Apart from the irrelevant twaddle, I find his comments denigrating to the riders; "fun" is inappropriate to what is a battle of strength and courage
