whenever Carlton Kirby is commentating I mute. Shame because there are some good commentaters out there that add to the enjoyment of watching the race, Kirby is just a clown and a distraction .

He ruins the final moments of a race by screaming to artificially heighten excitement. This F1 style of commentary doesn’t allow the cycling to be the focus. It becomes a pathetic marketing ploy for Eurosport instead. Mute button required- whereas other, better-educated commentators let the action speak for itself and the excitement is thus authentic.

I have nothing personal against Carlton, however after listening to his commentary for many years I find him frustrating and horrendously repetitive(for goodness sake)! There are many, many better qualified cycling commentators(Rob Hatch, Matt Stephens to name current best 2) and Carlton should go back to his first love, motor sport, he seems to have much better knowledge of this than cycling. Sorry Carlton no harm meant.

He misses the action, talks in clichés and asks Brian Smith a question, then talks over Brian's informative answer. There must be plenty of ex-cycling pros who would do a better job.

He is useless and so frustrating to listen to, this is emphasised greatly when you listen to other eurosport pairings such as Rob hatch and adam blythe, who know the sport and are brilliant at commentating....
