Get rid of Carlton Kirby

He is useless. He makes up stuff and he is wrong turns it into a joke. And then laughs.

Just heard him defending unnecessary deviation in a sprint and criticizing the rider who was almost Groenewegen'd into the barrier at Cro Race stage 2. How? Why?

Each to their own…. I personally like Carlton, especially when there is a lull in activity, he fills in and keeps you entertained. He is a presenter not an expert, that’s why he has a second who is the expert S Kelly, B Smith et al! Rant over.

Unfortunately, we heard him again at the Tour de Basque. He seems to breathe in right into the microphone, at least not too many jokes this time. There are soooo many other good commentators out there, why him?

I’ve taught myself to enjoy cycling as my husband is a huge fan and now really enjoy watching cycling with one exception. Carlton Kirby. I know more than he does!! Can’t bear his inane drivel. And he just doesn’t seem to watch what we’re watching.

He is very annoying and repetitive. Often misspeaks.

When I watch on GCN and he is commentating I will not continue unless its an important stage/race - then I often switch to the French commentary - I don't speak french

Thanks for writing to GCN. They and Eurosport need to understand just how unpopular he is - nearly 1,200 people taking the time to comment here shows that.

Kirby is getting worse. I have written to GCN and asked that they consider the huge discontent amongst the cycling fans (fans that know cycle racing and not those random viewers that might stumble into his commentary and not recognise his appalling lack of insight/knowledge/understanding about the world of pro bike racing) I feel sorry for his co-commentators who are no doubt feeling exactly the same about him, but who are unable to deal with him on air in the moment, as that would be political suicide for themselves. When we listen to 2 commentators like Matt Stephens and Bri Smith, it is superb insight/knowledge and understanding or Rob Hatch, Adam Blythe, Sean Kelly, Magnus Backstedt equally great to listen to. However why do we have to tolerate the inane drivel that is dished up by Kirby in a continuous stream of absolute nonsense and posing of ridiculous rhetorical questions thrown to his co-commentators who are then in the moment faced with having to navigate the hideous hypothetical scenario he dreamt up on the spot. A scenario that is simply so far away from the relevance of the moment that is is just another unwelcome distraction for all concerned. Carlton Kirby must be stopped, for the benefit and credibility of the outstanding work done by the others named above and for the enjoyment of the listeners. Please make it stop.

Agree with everything I’ve read. Detracts from everything he burbles on about. Had the misfortune to catch him on Olympic handball & still have no idea about the sport. I assume he must be both cheap & always available for Eurosport as no one else has such low standards?

Today, in the short time I've been able to tolerate him on the Euro road race coverage, we've had the made-up words 'dimunition' and 'internaysign' and his new-found weird pronunciation of Filippo 'Ghana', as well as Tadej 'Poo-catcher'

I completely agree. Carlton Kirby is a truly awful commentator. Rambling, inane, amateurish and ill informed. He is invariably incorrect and has no insight to give.
