Innane jokes, meaningless asides, random observations and reflections that are unconnected to the images do not a commentary make! When you add in his mistakes and oversights it is unbelievably irritating. He is by MILES the worst cycling commentator on tv!

I have no idea what's going on when he's commentating. He whitters nonsense. He frequently gets it wrong. He has no valuable insight into the actual race. The commentary is saved by Sean Kelly.

Utterly dreadful commentator. Seems to completely ignore what's actually happening, then constructs a fictitious narrative for the race in his head which he then rambles on about ad nauseam. Just awful.

It's preposterous that he's still employed. His commentating on sprint finishes is just brainless screaming. As you say, Dainese won by a street.
And the only rider with that name is Koen Bouwman, who rides for Jumbo-Visma (so a very different kit) and is not a sprinter (having won the Mountains Classification at the 2022 Giro d'Italia).

Arctic Race of Norway, stage 1 - DSM rider clearly comes in first in the sprint, he says "Baumann I think it was" (whoever that is supposed to be). This is after talking about Dainese being the favourite all day. Then says "it'll go to a photo". Dude, he won by a whole bike length.
Love ARN, I'll be watching the rest of the stages on mute.

totally agree... numerous times there has been action on the screen and he doesn't even mention it, i sometimes wonder if he is actually watching what is happening

Ah, sorry, you must have meant the track events. I didn't realise he was ruining those until I decided to tune in to watch some, and then immediately switched off because I couldn't bear to listen to him.

Not just cycling. Not so long ago I watched speed skating with the Dutch commentary - not that I can speak Dutch, but it was either that or the mute button as he has absolutely no clue about the sport :)
