Inane babble that sheds no light on the race and ruins the tv experience

Rambles constantly, fails to accurately describe the cycle races. Constantly being corrected by support commentators. Actually spoils the racing.

Not describing what is happening Inability to recognise riders Making things up (the other night describing “a touch of wheels” for a crash that was never broadcast) Xenophobia - sneering at where money allocated for road maintenance might really go in Italy, laughing at ‘funny’ place names which aren’t even worth an attempt at pronunciation Absolute fixation with talking about British cyclists as probable winners when they aren’t even in leading groups Refusing to name people involved in crashes with sanctimonious cries of ‘respect’ (as family members have pointed out, it can take days for associations to provide information about riders on the other side of the world)

Announcers aren’t supposed to proudly use the word “umm.” They also aren’t supposed to laugh out loud at their own jokes that are really awful.

He does ramble on. The only thing he does get right is how far to go to the finish which we're all aware of as it's always shown on the screen.

Just been watching Itzulia stage 5 highlights. I think he got literally everything wrong in the last 5km. And was borderline obsessed with where Ethan Hayter was - which was invariably not where he thought he was. Brian Smith was far too respectful with his corrections.

Carlton Kirby is one of the worst commentators I've ever been forced to listen to. Absolutely terrible. He must have friends in high places to have gotten this job... which he puts as little effort into as possible. What a waste!!

Quite simple - This cretin should not be allowed to speak, let alone commentate, on anything!

Poor jokes, random giggles, always wants to be centre of attention, knows very little about what is actually going on in the race. Enough is enough

Is it me or is Carlton Kirby’s commentary (the Basque tour) even worse this year? Brian Smith must be an extremely patient man.

Totally agree with what has been said about Carlton Kirby. My wife and I love to watch the cycling but we both groan when we realise that he will be 'commentating'. A constant stream of drivel, unrelated rambling and laughing at his own pathetic jokes. We are currently watching stage 2 of the Tour of the Basque country. Approaching an interim sprint point he stated that Primoz Roglic was near the front without any of his team mates only for Brian Smith to point out that most of them were actually also near the front! Just another in a long line of errors. He ruins the pleasure we normally get from watching the racing. Please, please get rid of him.

He constant Muttley impression and how he tries to hide, what seems to me, an inferiority complex by trying to better the ex-professional commentators. He can never just seem accept that the have a much better perspective and understanding of a race. I could go on, suffice to say he spoils many a rare for me

He tries.....Fed up with listening to the same old nonsense....."reaching out for glory" etc... bit like David Duffield......Time to put him out to pasture....

Well, ummm, I think, but yea.. a... ummm... he sucks!

He laughs at his own non- jokes; pursues interminable extended metaphors of no relevance; continually succumbs to malapropism, but, worst of all, despite knowing next to nothing about cycle racing persists in idiotic predictions which are usually disproven in the next kilometre and patronisingly talks over far more knowledgeable fellow-commentators.
