Why did this happen? Police are fully versed in non-lethal methods and should implement those techniques and use bullets as a last defence only.

If he got up after they shot him once why keep shooting he was Injured I would think eAiser to take down..the first shot didn't him so shoot 4-5 more times to make sure the job is done.... As a First Nation tax payer....that is what we pay for!!! ((Said Sarcastically)) please bring the justice.

There is no need for 'New York' style policing in the small tight-knit community of Port Hardy. Just how long did the officers take to actually try to talk this victim down? And why the need to shoot an already injured victim on the ground?!?

Sad he had to be shot but lets not forget when the police do not get a chance to shoot when someone attacks them with a weapon, knife, gun, club, whatever...Moncton ring a bell?? Tasers, dogs, pepper spray are not alternatives when an officer is facing possible death and you cannot shoot an extremity when someone is charging you with a knife. Don't persecute the police when you don't have the facts people. Hope the officer is doing OK.

Police have got to stop shooting-to-kill. This is wrong, it's a crime. Where are they getting this training to aim at the heart when they draw their weapon?

I understand the stress cops have to deal with and appreciate their work to the max, but 1 man with 1 knife is not a reason to pull a gun...has he not learned any other techniques before he earned his uniform... has he not got the confidence to carry through a situation as such.....choses to kill instead of wound that person..not right at all.....what are people to think about the RCMP if they let that slide. I feel bad for the family and also for the officer, he took a life and at the time probably was trying to do his job. I can not forget my kung fu teacher saying to us, "..every time you make a decision, you must make that move knowing that you are about to change that persons life"! boy is that ever true...

Cops can't investigate cops. We need independent investigations to expose police misconduct, violence and brutality. Justice for James Hayward. Peace and love to the family.
