This is one of the stupidest petitions I have seen. He was coming at police with a knife! If police used a tazer and he died you people would still be screaming murder. A knife is lethal. That means a lethal response. Imagine if he lunged at a nearby member of the public and the police didn't shoot. first and foremost are my prayers to the family second are my prayers for justice in the murder of James Hayward by the Port Hardy Police. There were other avenues to dealing with this even if James had a knife on him , he could have been subdued NOT MURDERED . Murder is murder even if it's by the police

what an uncalled for act by the Port Hardy RCMP. The men that are supposed to protect and serve. Yes I understand heat of the moment action, but to use such lethal force on a young adult with a knife is a joke, he could have been taken down in another manor.... Then to stand over him and shoot repeatedly?!? (whaT) I'm sickened by this viscous act by these officers and pray to god that the justice system sees it as it is. Sadly this usually isn't the case

Is there anymore information? I mean I'm saddened to hear this but was it uncalled for? Was there a confrontation? I mean for a RCMP to fire 4-7 shots James must have been doing something, no officer of the law opens fire on an unarmed innocent pedestrian without a very good reason. I do wanna sign this petition but I would like to hear both sides of the story, if anyone can enlighten me that would help.

Why did this happen? Police are fully versed in non-lethal methods and should implement those techniques and use bullets as a last defence only.
