If anyone deserves this award then Dave Wright surely does. He truly loved blues and consistently promoted the best unknown and influential blues artists on a daily basis. Extremely sad we lost him this year and I only hope that you can praise his presence with this award.

Dave Wright was a great blues promotor, had a great radio program was a walking music library. He supported and sponsored so many blues musicians everywhere when he could; at the IBC's, BMA's, Second Street Blues parties in Clarksdale, the music scene in Clarksdale in general and all over the country, the Killer Blues headstone projects and much more. A dearly missed resource for all blues fans and artists! had the pleasure to become his friend since 2007....

These days, most music needs a host to bring attention to up and coming artists. Dave was a conduit and connection to Blues through his radio program and presence in the live Blues shows in our community and beyond. As an officer in the local Blues society, he would introduce me to Blues artists he had connected with that I would be able to share in the connections he had made through his journeys and presence in countless live Blues shows. More of an encourager and exhorter, Dave would make it a mission to connect Blues musicians to fans, societies, & promotors . who might further a Blues artists career.

Dave introduced me, in person, to Selwyn Cooper, Bill "Howl 'N' Madd" Perry, Billy the Kid, and a young, at the time unheard of artist named Jarekus Singleton. This is a short list. I remember when Guitar Shorty played in Peoria, and Dave was there with some of his Guitar Shorty 45s to get them autographed. He was a walking encyclopedia of the Blues, he had an incredible collection, and he never told me wrong. I don't think that I ever attended a major Blues event but what he was there. His memory is most deserving of a KBA.

Dave Wright was selfless in his generosity of spreading the word about little remembered Blues artists, living or no longer with us, promoting their accomplishments and helping them realize their dreams. Dave helped these artists like few have, even as his health declined, Dave continued supporting the Blues.

Dave Wright was THEE Blues Historian, Tour Guide, Producer, DJ, Radio Host and Guy to know for talent wanting to get his or her chance to be heard by those who matter and for all fans in general. He could tell you about every new and old artist and who their influences were and who they influenced as well as what they created in new sound or trends. He was the Underground Mayor of Clarksdale during their Blues festivals and pretty well known at the King Biscuit festival as THEE Man. No doubt in this lifetime Blues Fan that Dave belongs with a KBA !!!

Dave was a blues historian, DJ, and scholar. His kind takes years to form, and we don’t really have anyone like Dave coming up in the blues. It was his life. Please honor him.
