Americans are responsible for about 160 million tons of municipal waste each year. That’s enough trash to completely cover the continent of South America. This waste is being generated by uncommon suspects such as households, commercial businesses, institutions, light industry and agricultural enterprises and nontoxic wastes from hospitals and laboratories.
Waste can lead to harmful effects to human health and the environment. These sources of waste can easily being alleviated through the implementation of less wasteful practices. Our mission is to get high school students encouraged to engage in less wasteful practices on Wednesdays, to raise awareness and create positive habits.
my kids school produces so much junk at lunch it makes me sick. wednesdays is a start but we need to do this everyday to actually see a change.
