Lawmakers, it’s time! Please change the law! I’ve practiced Dental Hygiene for over 35 years. Change the law from direct supervision to general supervision. Most of the dentist leave the office and leave us working alone anyway!

Dentists need to adhere to their own law, or stop leaving the office when a hygienist still has a patient in the chair. A bit hypocritical to fight against general supervision and then walk out the back door to get to lunch early. The sad thing is they will turn around and get upset with hygienists because we want to change the law so we can be legal. It's a sad state of affairs dentists.

I want the ability to see my existing patients on days my doctor needs to be off. Sick days, doctor appointments, meetings, etc. affect my production as well. Each dentist I have worked with for the last 12 years NEVER followed the direct supervision law verbatim. I treat patients and dentists do their exam at the end of the appointment only. I treat patients and dentists have gone off on errands or left early for lunch. All general supervision will provide is peace of mind for myself and other hygienists who, no doubt, experience the same practices with their offices.

It’s TIME for Mississippi to join the ranks & allow hygienists to be afforded the SAME professional courtesies as other health care professionals.

I practice in MS and TN. Our TN office is WAY more productive. It allows us to still be able to practice if the doctor needs to take off. We see routine recall and periodontal maintenance patients. Also we are able to give local anesthesia which allows us to see more patients a day because we aren't wasting time waiting on the doctor to come numbbour perio patients.

It is time for Mississippi to catch up with the way the rest of the world practices. It can make a huge difference in patient care access issues.

I am a practicing hygienist in MS now since 1982. For too long we have not been able to practice to our full potential, nor have some been paid for what they do. This is our chance. This is your chance. I will soon retire from a profession that I will always say that I am very proud to have been a part of, but I have seen no change in 35 years. Now is the time. Please make sure that all of your hygiene friends sign this petition.
