Natick High School finally caved and committed to installing gender neutral bathrooms. This victory belongs to every one of the 163 people who refused to let the administration ignore our basic dignity. We will be watching closely to ensure they actually break ground on these facilities without any further delays.

This petition is to add a gender neutral bathroom at NHS. Since there are a large amount of LGBTQ+ students in our school that do not define their gender, or may have to use the restroom that they would rather not use, I am starting this petition to get the Natick Public Schools and Natick High School to put a gender neutral bathroom in our school. I believe this would help students feel more comfortable with attending school, and would lower the bullying rate at NHS.

The administration at Natick High continues to drag their feet while students deal with unnecessary stress every single day. Their silence is a blatant disregard for the safety and dignity of the queer community inside these walls. I am meeting with them again soon and I refuse to let them ignore our basic needs.

This bathroom would go a long way in showing that NHS and its staff understand this community and accept it...something that has yet to happen from my experience as a parent of a child who falls into this category.
I'm someone who completely identifies with 1 gender and wouldn't need this, but want it anyway for the people who do need it. There is no reason one could have against this that I can conceive beyond the relatively small cost of it.
I'm a former nhs student and I have many many friends that struggle with this small decision every day, to go to the boys bathroom, or the girls, due to them being transgender. I think this is a great and very thoughtful idea.
I am a transgender student at Natick High, and while I am now comfortable using the bathroom of which matches my gender (the men's room) I know people who are not and who deserve the opportunity to feel safe going to the bathroom. I know many people who have had bad accidents because they were too afraid to use the bathroom. THIS IS IMPORTANT.
I am a parent of a current student, and an incoming freshman. We are starting with gender neutral bathrooms and locker rooms where I teach. All students deserve to comfortable in their school environment.
If you are in a public school in Massachusetts and of at east one person does not feel comfortable using a gendered bathroom then it is the law that the school needs to provide a bathroom that fits the needs of that person/people.
But you can be bullied anywhere, for any reason. Feeling comfortable comes down to a mentality. Even the most popular people are picked on. These types of movements create a more sensitive generation that can't handle criticism. If you are proud enough of your choice in lifestyle, you should be able to stand by it despite the views of others. This would only create a more segregated society in our school system by separating those who are fighting so hard for equality. We can't treat anyone any different than those around them. We must learn to cooperate with the gender you identify with, and installing a separate bathroom for those students would make that process more difficult, as well as longer than necessary.

I've got genderqueer friends, and they shouldn't have to hold it all day at school. It takes away from education, because it is really hard to pay attention to the American Revolution or whatever if you're trying not to piss yourself.
