Please build a park. That would be so great. They square is really nice and a park as well as a jazz club would be the icing on the cake.

Reading the comments on the petition ... one comment stands out ... keep the historical buildings but provide more green space. That can be done!!! The East Side was never historically named the Crossman Block. Never! It is simply a misleading statement designed to personify bricks and mortar. We would have never had a Square unless the great fire happened over a century ago. If that fire didn't occur, we probably would have buildings today occupying the current open space. But given an opportunity and seeing a future potential need to benefit the downtown community, the civic leaders over a hundred years ago decided to look forward and not hold on to the past. We have that same opportunity today. Why not reconstruct the old East Side facade, tipping our hats and honoring preservation, across 5th Street in order to grow the Square into a larger Plaza for the community to enjoy thus bringing City Hall into the new story. Without the City's commitment to Downtown, we probably wouldn't be having this discussion!

The square needs a much improved and crowd/family friendly facelift. Increased weekend traffic would help local business and more parking would be much welcomed.

Keep the historical buildings but add new green space and keep up on the maintenance. It is time for some change for downtown Garland to attract all age groups.
