I joined RID before I knew sign language because they told me I should and I trusted that. In 35 plus years since, I only now feel that trust wavering. I borrow NAD's slogan, 'Nothing about us, without us."

To the board, it's ok to make mistakes. We understand you are human and we do not expect perfection. I understand that to open the meetings to the public will release embarrassing and damning information. It's time to remove the proverbial band aide. The membership knows something is seriously wrong, and the secrets cannot be maintained much longer.
Take the road less traveled and open the floodgates of information. We know it will be a very painful moment and perhaps the organization will not survive, but if we do make it through this, we will be stronger. We cannot begin to heal until we first reveal what's being hidden.
If we stay on this path of closed doors with fear and lack of trust, you most certainly will govern the fall of RID.
It's ok to make mistakes, so long as we don't continue making the same ones.

Please keep this process open to us. Unilateral decisions by the Board related to topics that may directly affect members' ability to work can be harmful to the profession, and to the members as well. WE are the organization, and without us, there is no RID.

RID needs to do something different. It's obviously the old paradigm is not working. Listen to your members! We're out there working int he trenches and we know and see what the needs are long before you do.

Please lead our organization forward with mindful, open, and engaged communication with the membership and with our stakeholder groups.
