It's time to come clean, admit mistakes, be transparent. RID is a member-driven and member-funded organization. There is a 501c3 status that hangs in the balance if there is a continual mismanagement of money. How long can this charade continue? Be humble and admit mistakes. That's the only way to come out the other side with any respect. If you continue to close us out we can't help.

It would seem that the stakeholders in this situation would be in the know, but we are not. We are in the dark. It's affecting our internship programs, recruiting, non-certain that are test ready, our interpreting pools, agencies, and ultimately hurting the community at large! We deserve a say. We have a right to know. RID, you do not have a right to withhold.

We need a say in the testing process. There are way too many good interpreters who are not passing the NIC. RID in my opinion is taking advantage of being the only testing agency. More people passed when they had to compete with NAD for test takers.

Myself and several other Deaf and hearing members co-authored the open letter. It was circulated for feedback and modified. No single person's name is mentioned because it is meant to be an open letter that those who would like may join. Deaf and trilingual members also volunteered their time and talents to make sure the letter is linguistically accessible to as many as possible. Transparency is important, especially when RID is a monopoly that holds certification, testing, CEUs, and is our professional organizarion. With so many hats, we at least need to know what they are doing.

This petition brings up many salient arguments--the issues being addressed by the board are issues that will and do address us all. We deserve to know details that have been deemed "sensitive" (in particular financial details and testing operations) that membership has every right to know; the lack of transparency on the part of the board is continued; it is problematic and needs to be remedied.
