For my first 2 years of high school, if I wouldn’t have had band then it would have been a very different experience. I actually did better in school because of art classes and marching band. It gave me something to do well for, and it gave me people who could rally around me and give me help when I needed it. I want the future students coming into high school and below to have that same experience, and to have life lessons learned that I wouldn’t have if it wasn’t for band and my extra art classes.

These programs are the things that can help people find their gifts that they never thought they could and can be the thing that they might carry with them. To some people, it could be a break from all the stress that was built up through the grades and what could be going to happen or what things could go wrong. To some people it can be a way to help become closer with their talents, and have the ability to share and have friendship develop. Those are things can help make these places more enjoyable to work with and a way to learn better ways to help with interaction and things that people can treasure the most. I hope you would consider these things.

It’s pretty ridiculous that the school board would consider doing this, including sports as well? Band and football go hand in hand with eachother, taking them away would be taking away an escape for some of the students because that’s all they have. People wouldn’t try to get good grades to stay in the thing they love doing. It’s just not a good idea.

I am a current student at the high school. The arts have helped me decide my future career. If they cut the arts I will have to move schools because I will not be getting the classes I need for college. The arts have helped me through so much. Walking into band and choir everyday and seeing the teachers smiling faces always made my days better. I have overcome my anxiety and have stepped out of my comfort zone. If I wasn’t forced by the arts, I would have never been the student I am today. I have made so many friends that I would have never made if I wasn’t part of any of the arts. I look forward to my music electives every year and I would be devastated if I didn’t have them anymore. Also the clubs that I have participated in have helped me through so much too. Taking away the clubs, sports and arts would not only hurt a bunch of students but would also hurt a lot of the families who have put money into them so that they can participate. My family hurts for money but want me to succeed at my music career. Please take this into consideration because these programs have made a big impact on my life and other people’s lives too.

As a former WASD teacher , student, and parent of 3 children I know how important the arts and sports etc are to the learning of our children. Although I am now on a fixed income I would be willing to pay higher taxes if it will save these programs.

I don't see how WASD can continue on the "Path of First Choice" when you eliminate opportunities for students. We are better then then this. Set an example for our children by problem solving and critically thinking how we can provide the same opportunities with less resources. Consider how all stakeholders can contribute.

As a parent of 3 WASHS graduates (2006, 2008, 2014) we did countless fundraisers for the activities they were involved in. We even chaired the fundraisers for WASBA. The extracurriculars are important for these kids. Even though our kids are all married now, we still help out any students that ask us to support their fundraisers. We know how it is & we like to help them out.

In my opinion Waynesboro sports is why so many people come to our school. Our sports bring in money!

I realize that other districts surrounding us are all facing the same issue. Cutting these things is certainly not the answer. It may serve as a band-aid to the problem this year, but will impact this community for years to come. Once these programs are gone, it will be extremely difficult to bring them back. Then what? You will have families leaving and noone moving in to the area. They will choose to go where their children have choices. And (sorry for being political here for a moment) with the way things are still shut down in PA, yet starting to open all around us, why would anyone choose to move to a state like ours?

While I appreciate the unique situation the board finds itself in this year, I would respectfully like to add my voice to the ever-growing list of parents, students, educators, and concerned community members who are against cutting extracurricular activities. Aside from helping our children grow into well-rounded adults, extracurriculars provide opportunities that our children may not get otherwise (scholarships and teamwork/team building to name a couple). I would strongly urge the board to reconsider cutting these activities.

Utter ridiculous that this is even a thought about. Do u know how important activities are for young people. Depression, Suicide attempts will all rise if this happens and all of that will be on your hands. I’ve been coaching for thirty years and I will gladly move somewhere else if this goes through.
