I’ll be happy to pay more in taxes to keep the extra curricular activities going throughout our school district. I don’t believe freezing teacher salaries will help in the long run because we will lose teacher retention. Teachers will move on to other districts that pay more. We need our teachers to stay in our district. WASD has some of the best! The extra curricular activities help shape children and mold them into better individuals. I have a young son who is in elementary school and with the school boards plan, I fear for my child’s future at WASD.

Extracurricular components are essential to the education of the whole child. There are life lessons learned in these programs that have potential to affect a child much more than any math test or essay. Please understand that in this potential decision, you are not cutting extracurriculars - you are cutting a family for a child to find within the school, you are cutting the potential for a student to find creative outlets that they would not find anywhere else in the curriculum, you are cutting opportunities for children to become well rounded and responsible citizens who can think for themselves.

Sports and music make better academic students. If you don’t have them grades will drop and kids will lose interest. Don’t do it!!!!

Don't take these activities and sports away from the children. It's part of their development that needs to be there. They interact with peers learn life lessons with wins, loses and practices. Teaches them you need to work to get what you want. It builds bonds that last a lifetime.

I am concerned about these programs being cut. These kids need these programs. It can be a life line. I have children who have played sports, participated in the marching band and art clubs and more. I have another child in elementary school and would like him to be able to participate as well as other children. So they can receive a well rounded education because with out these programs these children may never have the opportunity. Thank you.

As a WASHS Class of 1998 graduate, I am concerned that the board is considering cutting important extracurricular activities like band or football. I participated in the marching band, sports, and various after school clubs. To be frank, hockey, music, and my foreign language class was the only reason I got out of bed every day. It gave me an outlet to be creative, and helped me to escape other issues in my life during my formative years. These activities are invaluable to every kid, and to take it away would be a travesty. I grew so much as a person. I gained confidence, learned the value of working together, overcoming disappointment, and camaraderie. I implore you to find a way to prevent these programs from being cut.
