We, the undersigned, support the funding of a self-sufficient lunar colony. We believe that building such a colony can help solve or mitigate many of the problems facing America and the world, including:
1) The Economy: Creating, maintaining and populating a self-sufficient lunar colony will create skilled jobs for engineers, scientists and technicians, some of whom have been out of work since the end of the Shuttle Transit System (space shuttle) program. We can also develop natural resources on the Moon, for use both on the lunar colony and on Earth.
2) The Current Boom in World Population: With over 7 billion humans on this planet, we are becoming increasingly hard-pressed to provide food and drinkable water for everybody. Some people are dying from lack of food and clean water even now. Creating a lunar colony capable of providing new homes, food, and water for its residents will help relieve some of the pressure.
3) Maintain America's leadership in the sciences. A new lunar colony can provide laboratory space for some of our top scientists and engineers to conduct experiments and operate equipment to study our universe well away from noise and light pollution on Earth.
Please consider providing funding for a lunar colony as a way to help improve our future. Thanks in advance.
I have spent the last few days drafting formal policy briefs to outline the economic benefits of a lunar base for congressional offices. The data included in the petition is currently being reviewed by two aides who specialize in aerospace infrastructure.
November 23, 2012
The petition reached a threshold that allows me to formally request a meeting with the House Committee on Science. I am drafting the briefing document now to ensure our proposal is included in the upcoming budget review cycle.

Cool idea but maybe we should fix the schools first. Just my 2 cents.
