I agree entirely with the petition. Growth is exploding in Bethesda and we need to insure that it is done correctly. We have a wonderful community now, so we should be careful not to tinker with what already works.

Citizens should have time to vet the people who wish to serve them and know what they stand for in advance of voting. An informed electorate is vital. Not having candidates declare at least a week in advance allows unknown agendas to muddy the water and breeds suspicion and mistrust.

Town election law should parallel MD state election law with 7 day advance disclosure.

I see no reason in the world that candidates for Town Council should not declare their candidacy publicly at least one week in advance.

I support this but I am *not* down with the group that says we can't trust our current officials. The rules were what they were. Now we are attempting to change them. But, they complied with the rules. Get over it.

I support this petition 100%. As a result of this last election, we can no longer trust some our present so-called "leaders."

I believe that this recent election has undermined the trust and transparency of our community which is so critical if we want the responsibility of governance.

I was quite distressed to learn that such an undisclosed candidacy could take place. I definitely support this petition to change those rules.

I support the recommendations of the Joint Committee of the Ethics Commission and Election Board as presented to the Town Council on September 9 with notification by write-in candidates of their candidacy and submission of their financial disclosure at the same time.

Anyone should be free to run for the town council. Candidates should be free to run on a liberal or conservative platform. But candidates should run openly and honorably. Organizing a stealth write-in campaign and hoping to win with low turnout because voters believe the election to be uncontested is not an honorable way to win public office. The town should require write-in candidates to declare themselves at least 7 days prior to election day to ensure that we have open and honorable elections.

The electorate deserves to be informed as to who is running and where they stand on issues important to the town. I support a policy that allows voters a chance to be informed about ALL candidates running for a council position at least 7 days prior to an election.

Fully support this petition. All voters must be informed about who is a candidate and given the chance to exercise their franchise in deciding who should represent them.
