Unsanctioned Camping is Unsafe! Fully Fund Compassionate Intervention!

I have children. We have been affected by these people; sleeping in our yard, stealing, needles. We are enabling these people. Give them accountability. Since when is it okay to NOT participate, to McLean up after yourself, to work, to be a part of society?!?!?!

Something needs to be done. I’m not sure what the answer is but it has gotten out of control in this town. The garbage that is left behind really bothers me!

This is a good step in solving a difficult problem. Humane.

If passed, this provisio normalized and legalizes tent camping in every Seattle neighborhood with only a few exceptions, such as schools and public thoroughfares. Left with no funding or authority to remove them, the City of Seattle will be banned from doing so. This is a lose/lose proposition for all involved.

We need to build more permanent housing and improve our shelter system. We need to be taxing the wealthy

I stopped bike-commuting because of unsanctioned, aggressive campers on my route. I witnessed fights, catcalls and urinating.

We should not be paying Sawants legal fees.

I would like funding for dangerous encampment removal to continue

Unauthorized encampments are unsafe for the public, the homeless, and our city. They produce waste, biological hazards such as needles and blood and increase risk gut disease. They also degrade the environment with garbage and fires. I support help for the homeless and more supportive housing and services.

As a civilized society, we no longer allow dangerous health hazards in our cities. Is civility going away here?

This proviso, if passed will legalize and normalize tent camping throughout every neighborhood in Seattle with only a few exceptions, such as schools. The City will be left with no funding or authority to remove them, and in fact, will be banned from doing so. We all deserve better.

Convert empty properties owned by the city into apartments or build small homes!

Dear City Council Members: Please consider ideas and options that promote responsible citizenship for Seattle!

I'm tired of seeing tents everywhere! Why are they allowed to camp in sidewalks?! That is private property

Please pass a budget to provide permanent housing and shelters for people living on the streets. Please strike down Sawants proviso that would prevent the City from removing unauthorized encampments.

After the fire damage done to the Atlanta freeway, it remains unbelievable that Seattle/King County/State of WA continue to allow people to camp under overpasses. Too dangerous. Not humane. Find a better way.

Please help by getting the homeless into a better living situation.

How many hundreds of thousands of dollars have been spent cleaning up these homeless encampments only to have them pop up elsewhere. There must be a more permanent solution and a more responsible way of spending our already stretched tax payer dollars. Our once gorgeous city now looks like a third world country. It’s shameful, and it’s a health and safety hazard. I’m a native of Seattle and I can’t believe how the City has let this problem get to the state of ‘emergency’. It should have been dealt with long ago before it took over the city. Where was foresight? Where was planning? Where was intervention? There are a lot of smart people living here. Form a coalition of professionals and creative thinkers! It’s not likely that City and County officials have the expertise to address the homeless problem. Bring to the ‘table’ the people who do! I’m sick and tired of being surrounded by tons of garbage. It’s disgusting. That being said, there needs to be a separate approach to helping people with mental illness; to helping families; and to helping women who are escaping from dangerous partners. These individuals need our help. The folks who don’t want help, but who choose to be a drain on society - well how about a one way ticket to nowhere. They cannot be allowed to continue using Seattle as their own private dumping ground. As you can tell, this makes me frustrated and angry!

Stop the insanity!!

The Council needs to stop raising our taxes and throw millions of dollars at the homeless issue because what they’re doing is not working. Low wages and lack of help for mental health issues are some of the underlying issues that need to be addressed. Unless those problems are part of the solution, everything else is just one bandaid on top of another.
