Unsanctioned Camping is Unsafe! Fully Fund Compassionate Intervention!

You are being irresponsible but listening to the experts in this area that were hired and denying your fiduciary responsibility taking park funds that we pay and then giving the parks over to crime and homelessness so we cannot be there with our families.

I have been assaulted by a mentally unwell person using a 4 foot aluminum crutch as I was out walking my dog. He almost broke my jaw, just around the corner from my home. My tenant had half his ear bitten off by a meth addict just outside his door. We both live in Capitol Hill. As density increases, more children, students and elderly walk the streets of our thriving inner city neighborhood. Some homeless people are just unfortunate and need help, which the city is striving to provide, and we, the citizens have agreed to fund. Others are mentally unwell or substance abusers, who may or may not be able to understand the world around them. All these groups are vulnerable to crime and to committing crime. Spreading them into every green space and providing facilities to allow this to happen encourages camping in urban areas and endangers the lives of homeless people and the vast majority of us who live here, and pay taxes towards the up keep of our neighborhood. This ordinance is poorly thought out and does not address the issue. I am studying Public Health and this is not a solution advocated anywhere in the nation as it DOES NOT WORK. I fully support the navigation teams and removing unauthorized encampments to make our city safe.

Please do not legalize public camping in the city of Seattle. These camps pose a public safety hazard. Instead work on expanding outreach and building more sanctioned and secure tiny house camps.

The many other solutions must be used to resolve homelessness, It is a mistake to allow encampments in any green space or park . It would create many many new problems more challenging than ever.

I fully support the provisions of this petition. The City must stop the degradation of Seattle by homeless encampments, and at the same time move people into safer and more humane housing.

No camping in parks. Remove all existing camps/tents from sidewalks immediately as they pop up.

Please stop this. Numerous times Ive seen tents right next to freeway exits (I-5 btwn 45th up to 65th) where people could be hit, in parks within just a few yards where my 10 yr old plays soccer (S sea), & on sidewalks completely blocking pedestrian access (georgetown & aurora).

This is a foolish and dangerous proposition from people who do not understand mental illness and substance abuse.

Everywhere we look there are camps. When they move there is filth! Now in our parks?! Where families and children play. NO!!!

No camping in City Parks or greenspaces.

Stop wasting our taxes on people who arent willing to help themselves! We need better process after arrests for addicts and more incentives to get work! Our city is embarrassing and filthy. It's become dangerous and rat infested. You aren't thinking about all the under funded community centers and pools that are closed. You aren't thinking about children and teens who don't have affluence and want to be involved in community programs. Art, music, culture, sports and other opportunities for our youth are the foundation of keeping people flourishing. Please stop wasting our money!

There are too many abandoned or underused areas in our region that could host the dysfunctional homeless folks, and which would leave our parks and green spaces for safe enjoyment by the majority of society. Proposals such as this which effectively punish the majority of citizens is unjust and illogical. Put our unused spaces to higher use by allowing homeless encampments in these areas, away from neighborhood recreational spaces that are meant for peaceful, safe use by our citizens.

No encampments in west Seattle. Our parks are already unusable by families with children due to drugs, harrassments and violence.

The city is spending tens of millions of dollars per year on addressing the problem of homelessness and this is your solution? Shame on you

This has not worked in other cities and it won’t work here.

I do NOT want the homeless to be able to camp in public parks, private property, or anywhere else that is designated by this proposal. It is unsafe not only for the homeless, but also for all of us in this community. We did NOT want this the first time it was proposed and I do NOT want this now. Homeless need to be housed immediately not given permission to continue to camp anywhere they like. They do NOT have more rights than everyone else. Stop this!
