Unsanctioned Camping is Unsafe! Fully Fund Compassionate Intervention!

Some unfortunate people need external structure to get their lives back on track. We can do much better than leaving them to barely survive in boxes and tents.

This is a difficult issue and I haven't been able to perfectly craft my thoughts on the subject, but I'll try to express why I am signing this petition. I believe we as a society need to care for one another. It is short-sighted to ignore people in need. We're delaying more issues down the road by doing so. Ending homelessness for anyone who does not want to live on the street is a a big challenge, and likely one that will continue to grow. We need to put resources toward educating people in that position about their alternatives, and we should respect people in need while providing assistance. However, we also need to care for everyone else in our city. We should not encourage individuals to live in public spaces by making it easier or more comfortable than the alternatives. I expect that the city will do what is right to make our neighborhoods safe for everyone. That means providing assistance to get people off the street if that's their goal. If people are presented with the alternatives and make a conscious decision to live on the street, it should not fall on the rest of society to subsidize their lifestyle by cleaning up after them and allowing them to build 'homes' that take over the public spaces to which we all contribute. We all have a right to enjoy our public spaces and we should be able to feel safe letting our families go for a walk at night, not worried about who they might run into late at night near the newest cluster of tents that's popped up. Please find a way to help those in need while respecting all citizens and making Seattle a great, safe place to live.

Stop homeless encampments in city parks and green spaces

I am strongly opposed to allowing encampments in our public parks, or elsewhere in the city.

This is necessary. Seattle has become an attractive place for those who choose to refuse any sort of help to stick around and make our city less safe. They need to be encouraged to move on.

Sweeping is not the answer. Seattle needs real solutions. Ask Salt Lake City how they did it!

We need to stop the homeless problem, not let it get out of control.

Enuf is Enuf! Homeless folks need boundaries just like law abiding tax payers.

Tell Councilmember Blight Mike O’Brien and Mayoral Candidate and Miss money-bags Cary Moon that living on a park bench, under a bridge, in a sleeping bag, in a tent, or in a backyard toolsheds is NOT compassion. Winter is coming and it’s going to be an exceptionally cold one at that. When these folks die, we will hold you very publicly accountable for allowing the worst to happen.

Let’s help the homeless get the mental health they need. Let’s keep our city safe. Say yes to the Burgess plan.

I live very close to Ballard bridge and when the city was allowing people to camp under their I regularly left my house to find people taking showers with my water hose, charging their phones with my outside outlet, stealing my mail (there is a case open with the UPS) and was so bad my neighbor and I had to spend $900 on locking mailboxes. Since camping was stopped under the bridge I've had none of these issues. Do not allow more camping ANYWHERE. We need to show compassion but you are impacting more tax payers than homeless.

I already feel unsafe walking alone in my own city with the rise of homelessness in the last five years. Letting people camp in all public spaces will increase the homeless population and force residents out of Seattle. I for one, a native of Puget Sound, will seriously consider leaving if the homeless problem gets any worse.

Keep up the good work

I'm in favor of the current efforts to reach out and assist homeless people find resources. Please don't trash our parks with camping. They are a respit from the noise, ugliness, and congestion of our city.
