Unsanctioned Camping is Unsafe! Fully Fund Compassionate Intervention!

As a voter and long-time resident of Seattle, I am completely opposed to allowing camping of any sort in Seattle parks, unused areas or not, or any other parts of Seattle not currently designated for recreational camping. Yes, we should provide assistance for those truly in need, but allowing camping in parks, on sidewalks, in derelict and unregulated recreational vehicles, or any other public spaces is clearly in opposition of public health and safe neighborhoods.

The mayors and city council have grown the problem of homelessness in Seattle and side effects for Seattlelites by promoting sleeping outdoors and in vehicles. We need to stop and provide alternatives.

The city council is insane! Do NOT allow camping in those spaces that are to be enjoyed by all citizens. Homeless camping will render our parks and open spaces unsafe, filthy and unsightly for the VAST majority of the city inhabitants! It is bad enough already. We, the people of Seattle, have the right to have our park and open spaces available for all to enjoy, SAFELY. Law abiding, contributing citizens will be shut out of our park and open spaces if the areas are infiltrated with those who have come to “free-attle” to live for free at our waterfront parks, our wooded parks and our open spaces. My husband and I pay a HUGE amount of money in property taxes, B&O taxes, employment taxes etc. I’m getting ready to move to out and take my money elsewhere. Get a GRIP Seattle! BTW, I’m a true Seattle Native, since the 1950’s. My dad since the 1920’s. My Grandfater since the early 1900’s (from Alaska originally). Both my grandfather and my dad are rolling in their collective ashes. Shame on Seattle.

Find a space at the Port or other big lot away from residents and parks for campers.

There is a difference between compassion and blind spending of money that only makes the problem worse.

Camping in the city is a freaking mess!! It degrades the image of our city and negatively impacts tax payers who are funding the city through OUR taxes.

Parks are for children & adults. Our roads & open lots are also not for unauthorized encampments. Camping in unauthorized locations by people who don't clean up their garbage create prime breeding grounds for rats & other disease-carrying vermin who then spread their diseases to other animals & people. We cannot allow them to take possession of our public areas, especially if we stop cleaning up after them. These same addicts discard their syringes & needles do NOT belong in our parks, they belong in treatment to get them off of their addictions. By authorizing this you are basically depriving our children of access to safe exercise areas. You're also exposing our kids to addicts who deal drugs when they aren't committing break-ins which may contribute to an increase in addiction & delinquency rates. Are you intentionally contributing to infections of the rest of our population by approving this disaster?

Sawant and O'Brien should offer permanent camping on their property first.

This new Proviso for encampments is another ridiculous attempt by the Council to ruin the city for those of us who pay taxes and live in a clean environment. Stop this stupidity!

I have lived in Seattle my entire life (47 years) and have NEVER seen our beautiful city look as bad as it does in 2017. Liberal politics, incompetent leadership, wasteful spending, and the failure to act and get tough have all contributed to this problem. We need solutions and this petition is the first step!

We vehemently oppose the use of public parks and sidewalks for camping: homeless or otherwise. And urge the city council to continue to cleanup illegal encampments. These camps are unsafe and will drive people and businesses out of Seattle. There has to be better solution!

Why do we continue to have to waste our time on this - it is an embarrassment!

I think the whom would squat in parks would be better served in shelters and with access to metal health professionals.

I hope I get a chance to vote against Sawant and the other idiots on the City Council who are opposing efforts such as this. Such foolish, idealistic and misinformed thinking.

Please everyone safe and encourage civilization. Camping on public land in the city is not the solution for anyone.

We need to help the homeless but let's give them housing, not campsites in city parks.

As an outdoor Kindergarten assistant teacher, I use the parks in Northeast Seattle daily. Both the main teacher and I have noticed a dramatic increase in tents, garbage and other dangerous things littering the city's parks over the past 3 years. It's sad to say that an outdoor kindergarten curriculum is compromised because of this situation, but it's impacting not only the children we teach, but many others in the city who use our parks. This situation is unsafe and there needs to be a lot more oversight to reduce the potential dangers that are out there.

I live near one on Mercer and 1st, this is just a way station for thieves and drug Addicts to exchange goods and services! I've seen it first hand!
