As much as I know that this virus is affecting people, I think the mental toll it is taking on people is far far worse than any virus. The rate of domestic violence cases has increased and I the best places for these children to be is in the classroom.

I realize we want to protect kids and teachers, but there has got to be a better way. The kids hated online. They NEED social.

I guess we need to start calling the teachers "Coach" and treating learning as a sport in order to get our kids back to the classroom! HS sports is full steam ahead, including Football, but these same students that just spent 4 quarters in full contact action cannot sit with the same people they just tackled in a classroom. Learning is the purpose of school that our taxes pay for. Stop the fear culture and think rationally! Its such a shame for all of our kids...a terrible shame and it disgusts me! And I depend on HS Sports for my livelihood so I am not against starting up sports in the slightest. This action by the Superintendent is illogical and inconsistent...and WEAK! SHAME SHAME SHAME on him for falling so hard to the UEA.

DSD Superintendent is not doing his job correctly...he is afraid of the UEA and it shows with this unilateral decision. If teachers are afraid of exposure because of their age or health conditions then those teachers should be the ones to teach online exclusively to the students that wish to do online exclusively. Facemasks worn by both students and teachers is sufficient to prevent transmission in person. As long as people aren't licking or sneezing 1 inch away from someone's face they will be fine. I am also sure we can find parent volunteers to come to their children's class and act as the "Sanitization Czar" to ensure kids keep face masks on, wash hands correctly, and wipe surfaces so teachers can focus on teaching. Forcing the teachers to come up with 2X the lesson plans and parents to sacrifice their jobs just so their kids can stay home to E-Learn is ridiculous! Go back to the original decision to do 4 days in class and Fridays virtual! Don't be afraid of the UEA or teachera striking and do the right thing!

We pay taxes in order have our kids in school 5 days a week not 2. Our kids have been traumatized enough with COVID enough is enough let’s get back to reality and normalcy

My voice is for the struggling and silent voice weeping without support, courage, and understanding. I support education in the home but NOT under COVID fear where numbers don’t match reality. Please consider safety from ALL facets.

My kids need the social but also the hands on teaching. Separating them from there friends when transitioning to JR high is making an already difficult situation harder

Not only do parents and others want a 5 day a week school schedule but so do the students!! This is our education! Doing online in the past was not the same. The student that have chosen to do in person school did it for a reason! We chose in person schooling over online schooling because it is NOT the same. It’s harder to learn and their are so many distractions at home as well. We want a good education and we can’t get it The way DSD is choosing to do school!

Working parents have no way to work around this option. Kids will be home alone and neglected while parents desperately try to keep their jobs! Parents will be much more stressed to make this work for their families

We want our kids to go back to school! Kids do not learn as well at home over the internet. many parents both work and it's not reasonable to think that kids are going to do well learning when unsupervised. Kids are not in the high-risk class like older people are so why are we so worried about our children getting something that's like the flu if the chances are it's not going to kill them.

We need to open up schools full time. Spring online learning was very rough and thankfully I have a child who is ahead in her class otherwise she would’ve fallen way behind. This is so important for the children’s learning to be in school full time.
It’s also very hard for us parents who have both parents who work full time.

To quote Reid Newey from July 14th from Board notes my children’s school emailed just today: “The governor asked and mandated that we return to school in a face-to-face fashion, so our goal is to have normalized instruction.” What has changed since July 14th to bring an email just two weeks later stating that students will only be in school two days a week? Utah’s current trend of Covid cases is decreasing. And all research shows that returning to schools is safe and in the best interest of students. My husband is an essential worker in the healthcare field, and teachers are essential workers for our children. Please let them attend five days a week.
