It is clear from the proceeds of the NSW Parliamentary Inquiry into “Operation Prospect”, that NSW Deputy Police Commissioner Nick Kaldas has suffered a grave injustice. From 1999-2001, Mr Kaldas was targeted with over 80 warrants and bugged and tapped for over two years (along with his family), as part of a controversial operation led by his fellow deputy and rival, Catherine Burn while she was a team leader in the internal affairs unit. The Parliamentary Inquiry has revealed absolutely no evidence of wrongdoing and that Mr Kaldas had “no cloud” over his head to justify such intense surveillance

Mr Kaldas is an extraordinary policeman with a wealth of knowledge, and experience both at home and abroad. A trained hostage negotiator, he was chosen by the United Nations to lead an investigation into the death of former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafiq Hariri. He also spent 8 months training police forces in Iraq.

These accusations are quite wrong and inappropriate. Mr Kaldas always served Australia genuinely and with passion.
