Schools in the UK exist within the context of a public service to a locality. The parents and the local community are stakeholders. The taking away from a community of its schools, their staff, fixtures, fittings and land seem hard to distinguish from an act of theft. If the prime movers of the proposed unnecessary conversion of these successful and popular establishments are not merely avaricious schemers, they should open their processes to real consultation with stakeholders - not the usual tick-list sham - and undertake to be bound by the outcome.

My children are the third generation of my family to have attended Colmore. We have all enjoyed an excellent education and that is why I question the need to convert to academy status. I would like to be able to know more of the motivation behind wanting to change and also hear why this will be an improvement on the existing school structure.

I have a huge affection and respect for the school and its staff. This news has come as a surprise and is concerning. It's essential that there is a fully transparent, well communicated consultation and engagement process now. This should include public meetings for parents and the community to have the opportunity to hear, and discuss, the pros and cons so that we make informed decisions. It's also important than other channels are used by the school in order to capture the views of those people not comfortable with giving their views in public, for example an official consultation questionnaire should be sent out by the school. And, as with any effective consultation, there should be clear timelines for the process from the outset.

A request for a full public meeting and a chance to hear both positive and negative aspects of becoming an Academy is not unreasonable. I support the Heads, Governors and Staff, but we need to approach this as a whole community and allow parents a voice.

Whilst I have trusting and respect for the Heads of both schools I feel this whole process has been badly handled. If academy status is on the cards a full and open discussion including a PUBLIC meeting must be arranged.

Like many others I have always had faith and trust in the leadership of Colmore Junior and Infants Schools. Without an open and transparent consultation period lasting longer than currently anticipated and involving a public meeting I am afraid that not only my own faith and trust but that of many other parents will be severely diminished.

I'm a parent of a child in Year 6. Becoming an academy is a big step for Colmore, and it's important that parents are fully involved in this decision. A punlic meeting is important because it will allow parents and others in the community to hear the arguments for and against academy conversion. Parents should also be aware that they would have less rights in an academy. If the school has good reasons to leave the local authority, they need to make the case at a public meeting.

I feel it's really important that parents know a lll the facts rearding academies and that they have the opportunity to raise any questions in an open meeting. If this is the best thing for Colmore what do the management have to hide?

Education is publicly funded not for profit and is publicly accountable that is the difference and perhaps business could learn a little something from this.
