Maybe it's time to sell. High taxes and insurance and now inadequate police coverage?? Not encouraging for Frye Island... poor decision.

Lot 30. I was there at the town meeting too and it was clear that the existing police department was to be funded. No mention was made for alternatives. It appears that the town administration doesn't believe in democracy.

There has been a vendetta to get rid of our popular police chief for a long time, led by the nominal head of our Board and her close friends on Frye Island. The Board action to terminate is illegal and also invalid.

I was on the call. It took me a minute to figure out what they were doing as I was in such shock! The best part is, the BOS didn't even follow there own public notification policies and procedures! So disappointed! And a bad deal on top of it! The county sheriff will only be on island for 40 hours a week High season only (4 -10 hour shifts thus 3 days with NO COVERAGE) and WE HAVE TO RENT THEM A COTTAGE!!

The way this went down is disrespectful and underhanded, to both the PD and community at large.

From what I understand, "official" reason - is "conflict of interest" due to Rod keeping two jobs at the same time. But... who really cares if Rod has another job, or two, or ten??? All that matters (to us) is that Rod does his "chief of police" job well. Unless there is real evidence that this is not so (I'd like to see examples) - it is Rod's personal business, and not the island management's business to care.
From what we see, Rod has done real good job on the island, and I'd want him to remain in that role - even if he has 10 other jobs! We're not going to have anyone do a better job (now they want to bring police officer with the family to LIVE on the island all season).

Why does all this "stuff" happen after most of the property owners have left for the season? Not all of us want to be Maine or Island residents...this is getting old..and nasty.

What happened to all the comments in favor of keeping Rod as Chief of Police for Frye Island that were heard at the Safety Committee, hope the comments were passed along to the Executive Committee, who made the decision to employ Cumberland County? Frye Island may be the laughing stock of Cumberland County, we pay lots of taxes for a 6 month resident Island and now we're going to give them more money!

Why did this happen? There must be a reason. It can't be because of corruption can it?

Rod has always been respectful and has put Frye Island first.
I'm behind him and the FIPD.
If this move was done despite the wishes of a majority of islanders, it is a travesty.
lets find a way to fight this
