Today when I got home I got a message that my friend, who lives in a school of choice district, might have to go to Fruitport Schools. She's been going to Spring Lake her whole life. Fruitport wants to pass an act that takes away Spring Lake's non-resident enrollment policy to the default school of choice policy. The 300 students will be choosen via random draw. Not even by family. Families can be split up, futures destroyed, romances ruined, and tragic endings to friendships. This is not right. The school needs people so that parents will vote to pass a 2-mill bond. There are other ways around this issue and ways to get money or voters to help pass this bond (in fact Spring Lake passed a bond just a little while ago on our second try). Sign this petition to agree with other ways around this issue and to support my cause.

My kids have friends who would be forced out and it breaks my heart. This is about stability for our kids not just money or politics.
I think this is a horibble idea! I am school of choice and I love spring lake. If i ever had to move to fruitport I would be devistated!
Definitely not the answer to FP schools problems! What will that do to children already in SL through school of choice?! It certainly isn't rocket science to see that this would be a traumatic and unnecessary disruption to their schooling and lives.
Agreed we need to find ways around it because that's just plain rude and they could ruin people's lives
This should not be taken away who says they can control where a child goes to school

My parents got this email also, because I am school of choice, I've been going to spring lake my entire life and couldn't even fathom going to a different school for the last 2 years of my high school education.
