The Metropolitan Police has launched a consultation process on its draft MOPAC/MPS Estate Strategy 2013-2016 proposing to close or downgrade front desks at a large number of police stations in south London.

This will leave a 75 square mile area stretching from Battersea to Forest Hill and Sutton and Bromley uncovered during night-time hours. The Local Guardian and Newsshopper newspapers in south London are calling upon The Met Police to reconsider their plans to ensure there is a permanent base where residents can seek safety and report crime within this area.

To support the campaign please sign this petition, to be presented to deputy policing mayor Steve Greenhalgh on February 26 and visit http://www.smart-survey.co.uk/v.asp?i=67232epffs to comment on the official consultation

The emails I receive from concerned residents confirm that the fear of a night spent without any safe local refuge is very real. I have spent the last few days trying to get a straight answer from the officials in charge but progress is slow and exhausting.

Reaching this point has been physically draining but seeing the weight of public concern behind this issue keeps me going. It is clear that I am not the only one worried about our safety being stripped away.

Bad idea. when things go wrong in the middle of the night you need somewhere to go. dont cut this service.

75 square miles without a desk at night? that is just asking for trouble. totally ridiculous plan.

KEEP OUR NEIGHBORHOOD SAFE. CLOSING STATIONS IS A HUGE MISTAKE.

Living in Forest Hill and we already feel abandoned. keep the stations open! we need to see actual police presence around here.
