I'm a recent migrant to Cambridge and I visit Ditton Meadows regularly at all seasons. The meadows and fens are beautiful and very special ecologically. This is a treasure that needs to be protected and not developed.

There needs to be a greater sensitity to the unique landscape and heritage of this exqistive medieval city that is loved the world over. Like many others in the city I support the maintenace of Ditton Meadows in its current state as a historic open space and wildlife area. Why shouldn't others enjoy what has been loved for many generations. I strongly oppose any form of insensitive development that does not respect this historic open space.

I am a keen cyclist and make frequent use of cycle paths in this area - as well as enjoying walking along this part of the river. I do not see the need for a new cycle bridge here - as far as I can see, a need has not been demonstrated, and several other bridges seem to me to be perfectly adequate for getting between Fen Ditton and Chesterton. Let's keep this lovely unspoiled part of the meadows as they are!

I have walked and enjoyed Stourbridge Common and Ditton Meadows often. Since as long as I can remember, various “projects” have planned to urbanise and use these open spaces for this and that. A SPACE doing “nothing”. So, lets trash the fields for a connecting road, construct a huge flyover, make a designated cycle route 51, dig them up for a rowing channel, extend the busway, and now - a new cycle bridge and access paths to connect to the Science Park and Cambridge North railway station. These natural open spaces are a prime asset to Cambridge. They are NOT for development. They are not still there like this because “good people did nothing”!! There have been vigorous and hard-won campaigns to keep the Common and Meadows intact, and well done those people who worked so hard to preserve them for the future. The photo of the meadows says it all for me. If the planners can’t do this cycle track and bridge properly, then don’t do it at all.

It would be inappropriate to despoil this beautiful meadow. If there is a need for a cycle bridge, surely it can be next to the railway bridge.

I truly sympathise. Wandsworth Borough Council has agreed to have Formula E Racing in Battersea Park - a small, beautiful, grade II listed Victorian Park. Its consukltation was of the smkimpiest. A couple of conservation groups. I hope you win.

Please protect this wonderful place! There's no need for another bridge here.
Failing to see the need for a footbridge at proposed site, when there is one nearby. Is it really the best use of public money to build something for convenience rather than need?

I am not against there being a cyclists and pedestrians bridge adjacent to the railway bridge but consider it should be positioned on the upstream side. I dont think the bridge needs to be 5m wide. The old footbridge at Chesterton is wide enough.The saving achieved by working to a narrower dimension could offset the extra cost which I believe is likely to be incurred by building on the west side of the bridge. I also think there is no need for the cycle bridge to make contact with the towpath on the Chesterton side. It could simply connect to Fen Road with little level change where it meets.
