From the time these recreational areas were turned over to Forest Service from Corp of Engineers they have slowly gone down hill. They should be turned back over to the Corps of Engineers so they can be taken care of properly.

I'm signing this petition in an effort to keep these recreational areas open. I was born and raised in Southwest Virginia. Cane patch and Phillips Creek were great places to spend the summer with family and friends. We have community members who are willing to maintain these areas. These recreational areas are vital to our small community which has been hit hard economically. They are wonderful areas that are family friendly, Cane Patch is a great park for camping, only a few miles of Hwy 23. Our community, especially southwest Virginia seems to be overlooked a lot by the government of Virginia. Funding seems to stop in the Roanoke area without coming to the southwest region of Virginia. The US Forestry budget is in the billions. It doesn't take a lot to maintain those areas. Just give the community a chance to keep these areas open.
