Dangerous and likely illegal closure. Check the stipulations of the federal funding you gladly take for valid closures.

KGWS is a key pickup airfield for fixed wing air ambulance. With KGWS, we’re forced to use KRIL

Flying is an isolated activity - much more than automobile traffic. This closure makes no sense. I use Glenwood Springs as an alternate airport when flying in the mountains.

I am at my hanger every in Longmont night working on projects. There are many others doing this as well. We keep to ourselves. I am in more danger going to the grocery store.

If the airport has taken federal funds the FAA will not allow it to be closed.

As a pilot with Civil Air Patrol I am concerned about search aircraft being unable to land at GWS for re-fueling.
As a pilot with Angel Flight West I am concerned about the inability to quickly deliver PPE and other supplies to the Glenwood area, as is happening around the state.
GWS airport is also highly used for mountain proficiency flying for Front Range and western slope pilots.

This is one of my family's favorite mountain destinations. We've spent numerous weekends and thousands of dollars in 2019 alone at Glennwood Springs, in part because of easy airport access. Glennwood Springs is not worth the drive up and down I-70 to us, but it's a great fly-in destination. Closing the Glennwood airport forces a clientele that typically has disposable income and desire to travel to look at other destinations. Instead of Glennwood being at the forefront of their mind for a getaway, their minds now shift to your neighboring towns. I encourage you to think about what the loss of this asset would mean to your local economy, access to essential services, and access for local businesses. This airport is a true gift that other mountain towns wish they had access to, but are limited due to terrain. There's a bigger opportunity to using the airport than destroying it.

If the roads are open, the airport should be open

This is similar to other airports under siege in the United States, such as Santa Monica and the late Meigs Field. It's typically the same underlying reason. You just have to follow the money.

Apparently, Glenwood Springs has never had an emergency air evacuation, or needed to host fire crews, or had business people flying it to conduct business. Did they also decide to close the down I-70 into town, or the gas stations right off it? June is the the time of year when I regularly fly into Glenwood Springs to go kayaking. Assuming the State lifts the stay at home order as planned, I will not be spending my money there this year.
