Because this needs to be addressed in a more concrete way. It's unacceptable and something needs to be done.

It is extremely unsettling to know that these instances of sexual assault are so prevalent on a campus that I consider home everyday. Previous programs that are currently in place are not accomplishing what they need to, making it clear that there absolutely needs to be sexual assault orientation seminars to raise awareness to incoming freshman about the severity of the issue and that sexual assault is unacceptable on this campus, as it is everywhere.

This is just a no brainer. Training needs to be focused on consent, and how consent cannot be given if the person is under the influence.

I have plenty of friends and family at VT and being from Virginia, a part of me is always going to be a hokie! My freshman year at my tiny liberal arts school in NC, we all took the online course "Haven" on sexual assault. 2 months later, 5 reports of sexual assault came through the campus in the same week. No one talked about it for months. Eventually student leaders came together and changed our freshman orientation curriculum to a more personal style. I think it has helped. Best of luck.
Make a change!
Go Sarah!! Sexual assault needs to be addressed
