The administration confirmed today that in-person orientation seminars will become a permanent requirement for all incoming freshmen. I am overwhelmed knowing that these conversations will finally happen face to face instead of behind a screen. Thank you for helping me push for a safer campus for everyone.

Final supporters
Within the past 24 hours, Virginia Tech students have received three emails reporting sexual assault. Clearly, the programs we have in place at Virginia Tech are not working effectively to educate students about the importance of consent when having sexual relations. Currently, incoming freshman must complete an online lesson plan about sexual assault before coming to the university. We think that while this online lesson plan is well-intentioned, sexual assault is a problem that deserves more attention than just a computer screen.
Since sexual assault is a problem that affects real people, this is a problem that needs to be addressed in person. We propose that in-coming freshmen should attend an in-person seminar on sexual assault to show the reality and pertinence of this situation. As students at Virginia Tech, we care about the victims of sexual assault and want to ensure that the best educational programs are in place to prevent any future attacks.

The school I transferred from had a woman come and speak about her experiences with sexual assault in college. I think something like this would work better than a lecture-type event as it was more personal, and more of a discussion than an seminar.
Sexual Assault education should not only be part of freshman orientation but a regular part of campus affairs with progressive education as students advance in their degree as there are multiple forms of gender based violence.
An in-person seminar for ALL incoming students is a great idea. Male and female; its important to see emphasis put on how situations can become something unexpected for both victim and offender.
I fully support this movement and think that it would be an incredible thing to incorporate as I was sexual assualted multiple times in college as were most of my close friends. Most people don't even know what constitutes sexual assault let alone how to report it.
An online PowerPoint does not properly address the issue of sexual assault. Talking about sexual assault needs to be personalized because it is a person to person issue. Having a computer teach incoming freshman only furthers the objectification that so often surrounds victims of sexual assault.
I want help end this forever this injustices must end immediately it should not be happening world wide at colleges or jr. Or high schools even.
I believe it is clear to all who have received every update from the month of March alone of sexual assaults of VT students that something needs to be done.

I'm a Virginia Tech sophomore and I definitely think having an in person seminar at orientation would be awesome. I'm guilty of simply muting the videos and clicking through.
