I believe it is clear to all who have received every update from the month of March alone of sexual assaults of VT students that something needs to be done.

It's important to get people together in a room for such a seminar if we really want to shift the underlining paradigm and cultural. Where we can see and feel empathy for one another, and have the ability to discuss it with our peers afterwards. Taking a course on a computer is just to easily glazed over and forgotten. I think this is great idea.

Virginia Tech can and must lead the fight in reducing the epidemic of sexual assaults that have plagued college campuses across the nation. This is a terrific starting step towards that goal.

Especially since I'm close friends with two victims of sexual assault here (and having gone through the dry, impersonal online sexual assault course when I was a freshman), I strongly support an in-person seminar, or maybe even several, because just last year there were a 3 or 4 sexual assault cases reported to the university (and likely more unreported) and it's obviously a problem here. I'm glad you're starting something to make a change.

While the recent events may not indicate an increase in actual assaults, it undeniably shines light on an issue that has gone undiscussed for too long. Tech does a wonderful job protecting students... but not enough students truly understand or recognize how to protect themselves, and how vital it is to do so. Being at a 'safe' university does not make you untouchable. Anyone joking about the recent emails, or arguing that such seminars are useless, are in desperate need of one such lesson.

We need to do better. It is evident that the current programs are ineffective. I urge the student body and the administration to humanize these three emails. These aren't just sad stories, "isolated incidences", or chances to question "What was she wearing? What was she drinking?". These are three lives impacted forever. I stand with survivors of sexual assault and hope that you will too. Support the survivors you know and advocate for more comprehensive training regarding sexual assault prevention and the correct ways to obtain consent. This is a problem nationwide. I applaud Sarah Pavilack for taking initiative at Virginia Tech and sincerely hope that her enthusiasm spreads to other Virginia schools and universities nationwide.

Implying that non-students or students from other universities need not care about sexual assault.
"We think that while this online lesson plan is well-intentioned, sexual assault is a problem that deserves more attention than just a computer screen."
So are the women of VT getting too much or not enough attention?
