Restore the Fremont Homeschool Participation Policy

My son loves to play football, he loves the challenge and was excelling even with his grades in all classes during football season. Ethan began going through some depression and began having issues at school. We began homeschooling him and hes doing great. Ethan still would love to be apart of his football team. It's the feeling of being a part of something, not feeling isolated just because he is homeschooled. I think it builds character and teaches them commitment as well as respect for others. I encourage the board to put yourselves in these children's shoes. They should have the opportunity to play just like anyone else.

This is an unfair policy and should give the rights to all students to participate!

A small school system needs all the students it can get (especially well mannered home schoolers) - there must be a "money" issue with this policy. We also pay taxes to support this district - be fair & give these opportunities to all the kids!

Consistant requirements for all in the school district. Appears policy needs reviewed.

I don't understand why some are trying to keep these kids from participating in Fremont School activities. They have excellent grades and are an asset to any activity in which they participate. They represent Fremont in the best possible way.

We always enjoyed coming to Fremont to watch our grandchildren participate in sports. This family pays taxes just like everyone else and should be able to access what their taxes are paid for. This is a wrong minded rule.

Many homeschoolers are an incredible asset to our public schools. Let’s keep them involved.

This family is so valuable to our community and school. I have been able to watch these kids in the weight room every single time I am in there. As a graduate and coach for Fremont High School I am not just signing this so we can win games. I am signing this to correct a problem we have in our school system. If homeschool students can be positive influences on other students like the Pentecost family is, we are missing out if we continue to push them away!

All children should have the ability to participate in athletics. It should not matter if they are homeschooled or in public or private school. If there academics meet state regulations, than they should be allowed to participate. We try to teach our children not to discriminate, however this is what we are doing when we dont allow homeschool children to participate.

The goal of Fremont community schools should be all inclusive. I can see if homeschoolers didn’t take any class at Fremont, but if they take a class, I don’t see how it is a problem to not allow someone the opportunity to play a sport when they are a student at the high school/middle school. Why hold these kids back who want to do something for the school and help out on sports that are already low in numbers. It’s just selfish and I’m not proud of it. Let them play, they take classes, I took two real classes at the school my senior year second semester, the rest where at Trine or online and I know of kids who only took one and still had the opportunity to play. Don’t deprive these kids of the little social intersections they already have.

Home school kids should have the right to participate in all school sports or any others function

I have known this family for a long time. I believe we as a school community should be doing all we can do to get these kids participating in extra curricular activities. Not only are they great athletes, they are great kids, great students, and would all benefit from being associated with this family. We need more kids like these in our school and on our athletic fields. We are trying to change the culture at Fremont and these kids are a great example of what we are trying to do with our student athletes.......strong work ethic, positive attitudes, and responsible members of our community. The entire Pentecost family have the positve traits that we all strive for!!
