PETITION FOR THE IMMEDIATE RELEASE OF YOUSSEF SAMIR MEGAHED The Tampa Chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR Tampa) is calling for the immediate release of Youssef Samir Megahed, a legal permanent resident, arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials on April 6, 2009 on identical charges he was acquitted of in Federal Court 3 days earlier. The Department of Justice must remain consistent in treating individuals fairly. The Honorable Attorney General Eric Holder recently made a commitment to this very issue stating: âUnder my leadership, the Civil Rights Division will fight discrimination and inequality just as fiercely as the Criminal Division fights crime. Under my leadership, in all that it does, the Civil Rights Division will reflect the spirit of the movement that inspired its creation. That wonât happen unless we relentlessly pursue an end to the scourge of racial profiling of African-Americans, Muslims and other Americans that alienates citizens from their own communities.â Please sign this petition to call for the immediate release of Youssef Samir Megahed by the Attorney General and the Department of Justice.

The days have been long and the weight of this case is heavy on us all. We are creeping toward two hundred fifty signatures but we need a final push to force the Department of Justice to acknowledge our demand. Please help move this forward while we still have momentum.

Reaching this level of support feels heavier than I expected because the fight remains exhausting. Seeing so many people recognize the injustice here keeps me moving forward even when the silence from the authorities feels deafening.

This is just wrong. If a court says you are innocent you shouldnt be held in jail. Fix this mess.

Ridiculous how the govt can just ignore a court ruling. Let the man go home to his family already.

Seriously? The guy was already found not guilty. Why is ICE still dragging this out? Unbelievable.

Enough with the racial profiling. It is 2009 not the dark ages. Free him now!
