People enjoying the great outdoors is one of the best ways to keep them motivated to protect it. The money spent on patrol could instead be used to offer minimal trash service and making the area slightly safer ( removing underwater obstacle under cliff ) ... Let's ticket people for littering - not for swimming !

Let swimming areas be swimming areas! My family deserves to be able to cool off with a quick dip w/out fearing being ticketed! We moved here for the beautiful recreational opportunities and now find those opportunities are highly restricted - esp disappointing since Buttermilk is closed now :(

Swimming should not be so heavily inforced. There is a public safety issue but swimming isn't the issue!

The activity within the Gorges and along the waterways is a paramount tourist and local attraction, the merging of the land with the culture in a way that can showcase the beauty of these lands for our people, all of our people is an integral part of the spirit of our city of Ithaca. The dangers within cliff diving and surrounding swimming in various areas are not great enough to confiscate the culture of natural beauty, and people connecting with the land and their loved ones and friends. The instances of drug use, from alcohol to other substance, though part of the culture of the multi-college town of Ithaca, can be troubling, but is not worth discarding the loving, natural experience of going into a place of nature to connect with life and the joy of our hard earned Spring and Summer seasons ! I love Ithaca, and the "four loco" and "gas station culture" are troublesome, but a part of Ithaca and easily managed without changing the culture, on an individual-encounter type basis. Please keep the waterways free for those of us who would like safe, semi-private time with our loved ones and nature, during these golden, warm seasons !!!

Don't punish an entire community for the foolish acts of a few idiots. Enforce a ban on cliff jumping but laws won't protect an idiot from dying a preventable death. If someone chooses to risk it and dies in the process we should all be grateful they won't live to procreate.

I am not in favor of moving to a system where we are all punished for risks being taken by a few. A look but don't touch model of enjoying our beautiful swimming holes is ridiculous!

Chlorinated swimming pools have bad effects on my skin hair and eyes. I would much prefer to swim in open water. Sitting under a small creek waterfall is a great massage and I would be sad if I could no longer continue using the creeks as a natural resource.

So Ithaca would rather open a facility for people to shoot up heroin and meth than allow people to swim and cliff dive like they've been doing for DECADES?! I agree 100% that the underage drinking and pot smoking should be dealt with to a degree, but people have been jumping and swimming there pretty responsibly with very few issues for literally DECADES, and will continue to do so.
Post "At your own risk" signs and send someone periodically to address the drinking and pot smoking if needed.

Swimming in swimming holes in the gorges is not the same thing as jumping off cliffs, getting drunk, littering and make noise. There is nothing better on a hot day than going down to 6 Mile Creek and taking a swim with my kids. Especially since the public pools close in August!

I think we should not lump the hazards of cliff jumping and binge drinking with swimming. Signs warning people of the specific hazards and measures to ensure safe swimming would be a better more effective approach.
