Totally agree with the proposed bridge which, if combined with a northern "expressway", would go a long way to solving our present problems.

I can see the advantage of a road bridge and it would certainly ease congestion at the southern entrance to the city Obviously any development would need to consider cyclists and footpassengers including families , disabled people and commuters also needing a safe and uninterupted pathway

I believe Chichester desperately needs a solution to the congestion caused by the level crossings & support the Freeflow scheme.

Given that likelihood of resolution of current A27 problems is low, it is essential to improve access to Chichester. Removal of the level crossings and replacing them by a bridge is an excellent idea. This will also enable a greater separation of traffic from the new Southern Gateway. Lets use some of the promised £250 million on this rather than piecemeal work on A27.

I support this approach as it seeks to resolve the unacceptable city southern barrier; it provides an area of regeneration and it pedestrianises space close to the station. More housing should be included, less retail to support existing offer and no additional gallery / arts space again to support existing facilities.

Anything to avoid sitting at the railway whilst 3 trains go through - ridiculous congestion at both the main one, Basin Road and Whyke Road.

Must be worth looking at this alternative scheme given the "once in a lifetime" opportunity to deal with the level crossing problem,

Why is common sense so difficult for councils to accept? Vessted interests?

I believe the by pass proposals must go ahead along with dramatic improvement to the management of rail crossings. The spacemen who run Network Rail claim safety issues keep the barriers down for inordinate lengths of time - not true. If their is a delay to a trains schedule and Network Rail are the cause the train company can claim reparation. To reduce the likelihood of this happening barriers are closed 5 minutes before the train arrives in Chichester - in most civilised countries it's 30 seconds!! The issue is financial and Network Rail carry on blithely, causing chaos, while Chichester dies.

Chichester is a beautiful city and great shopping destination spoilt by the horrendous traffic gridlock caused by the two level crossings. With rail travel more popular than ever (despite the strikes) it can only get worse. We need the bridge.

A worthwhile project which would undoubtably help congestion, make access to the city easier and greatly improve the time wasted in traffic etc.

It's a no brainier, the city has become a car park!

The CDC proposal restricts the normal traffic flow to a single level crossing which will tend to increase the delays and the option of a bridge is discarded without any discussion or comparison. The bridge option must be kept in the frame and be properly assessed.

Go for Freeflow and move the gridlock further out - The the byepass must then be tackled!!! Go North!

Having only recently moved to the area, I was amazed that a city in the UK still had railway crossings controlled by traffic lights running through its middle and causing significant inconvenience to motorists. The proposed solution here makes eminent sense to me and has my full support.
